• The 2024 BMW M3 CS is a track-focused upgrade to the M3 Competition. It has an even stricter core than the M3 Competition.
  • From the Competition to the 2023 M4 CSL, the twin-turbo 3.0-liter straight-six engine in the M3 CS gains 543 horsepower.
  • In March of this year, it will make a limited number of the new M3 CS, and the price will start at $119,695.

The BMW M3 has been a household name for many years because it has a perfect mix of exciting performance and stylish features. With the release of the 2024 M3 CS, which is much more extreme than the track-focused M3 Competition, the average sedan loses some of its practicality.

Utilizing Maximum Boost

The limited-edition M3 CS differs from the rest of the line because it has more power. BMW has tuned the 3.0-liter straight-six engine in the CS to make 543 horsepower, which is 40 more than the 503 horsepower in the Competition and 70 more than the 473 horsepower in the standard M3. The CS model’s engine boost pressure is 30.5 psi, increasing from the Comp model’s 24.7 psi. This is the main reason why the CS has more power. Both models have a torque of 479 lb-ft.

The cooling system for the CS is based on what was made for the M4 GT3 race car and is made to handle not only the extra power but also the wear and tear of the track. Like in the M4 CSL, the engine mounts are much stiffer, making the connection between the engine and the car’s frame stronger. Because of this, you can expect more noise, vibration, and harshness.

Every M3 CS has an automatic transmission with eight speeds and rear-wheel drive. In the M Setup menu, drivers can change the industry “4WD” settings to “4WD Sport,” which sends much more torque from the engine to the back wheels. The driver can turn off the stability control and turn on “2WD,” which sends power directly to the rear wheels, just like an all-wheel-drive Competition vehicle. BMW says it takes the new M3 CS 3.2 seconds to go from 0 to 60 mph. When the M Driver’s package is added, it is said to have an electronic top-speed limiter that keeps it from going faster than 188 mph.

Large Amounts Of Carbon Fiber

BMW uses a lot of carbon-fiber-reinforced plastic on the M3 CS to get as many pounds off it as possible. The top, hood, front splitter, front air intake, external mirror caps, rear diffuser, rear spoiler, center console, shift paddles, and interior trim strips are all lightweight materials. Even the titanium rear silencer on the CS’s exhaust system is expected to weigh less than eight pounds less than the factory setup. In BMW-speak, “CS” means that the 2024 M3 CS weighs about 75 pounds less than the M3 Competition with standard M Sport seats. Even though it’s not as impressive as the M4 CSL’s weight loss of 240 pounds, the M3 Comp is still about one fourth-grader lighter.

The M3 CS comes with high-performance Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 tires that measure 275/35 ZR-19 in front and 285/30 ZR-20 in the back. A set of these tires alone costs $1874 on Tire Rack. If the Cup 2s aren’t chosen, the CS comes with more common summer tires in the exact sizes as the Cup 2s. No matter what kind of tires they have, CS models have M-specific wheels that are either matte black or gold bronze and have a unique V-spoke design.

On the M3 CS, heated power-adjustable seats come as standard, but on the M4 CSL, they are an extra cost. The chairs have a unique look because they are black with Mugello red accents, have contrast stitching, and are made of Merino leather. Aside from that, the CS is different from the CSL in that it has back seats so that people can bring friends or family.

BMW says they will make only a limited number of the 2024 M3 CS, but the company has yet to say how many will be made. In contrast, there will only ever be 1000 2023 M4 CSLs made worldwide. Because of this, we will make the same number of M3 CS cars. Fans of the M3 who think the Competition doesn’t have enough track-day drama will enjoy the CS version more.
