The Chevy Blazer EV is set to pace the field at the 67th edition of the Daytona 500, scheduled to take place this Sunday. This event will represent the first instance of an electric vehicle leading the historic race, while also marking the 16th occasion on which Chevy has supplied the pace car. The Blazer EV SS, the highest-spec model, will act as the pace car, shooting to 60 mph in a claimed 3.4 seconds with its 615-horsepower output. There will be 40 loud V-8 engines at this Sunday’s 67th Daytona 500, and a Chevy Blazer EV SS will lead the NASCAR Cup field to the green flag. Chevy has been in charge of setting the pace for 16 races, but this is the first time an electric car has done so at the Daytona 500. The Chevrolet Blazer EV will be available in the top-of-the-line SS trim level. The top model is said to go from 0 to 60 mph in 3.4 seconds, has up to 615 horsepower, and comes standard with all-wheel drive. In order to hit that speed, the Blazer EV SS has to be in Chevy’s new “Wide Open Watts” mode, which lets the car’s full power shine through. Chevrolet also said that the Blazer EV.R, a new NASCAR prototype, will be shown for the first time. Ford just showed off its brand-new Mustang Mach-E NASCAR prototype as part of the sport’s continued work with its OEM partners to explore new technologies. The 2025 NASCAR Cup season starts with this weekend’s race. Fox Sports will show coverage on TV, and Max will show video from inside the plane. The green flag action is set to start around 2:30 p.m. ET.
