The ZR1X is a very fast Chevrolet Corvette. We’re aware of this. It can go from 0 to 60 mph in less than two seconds and cover the quarter-mile in less than nine seconds thanks to its twin-turbo 5.5-liter V8 engine and front-axle electric motor. On the Nürburgring Nordschleife, it beats the 815-hp Ford Mustang GTD, a $327,690 toy car made by the same Multimatic company that gets Ford’s GT race cars ready, by almost three seconds. We thought the ZR1X would still be cheaper, and it is. The starting price for the top-tier Corvette is $207,395, which includes a $1,995 destination charge. The ZR1X comes in two different styles: a convertible and a coupe. For an extra $10,000, the convertible costs the same as the coupe. The extra 3LZ interior package comes with a second wireless phone charger and a camera that faces forward. The steering wheel, seats, Bose audio system, and trim are also improved. The 3LZ trim begins at $218,395 for the coupe and $228,395 for the convertible variant. But there’s more! You must also choose the extra $10,495 ZTK Performance Package if you want the fastest ZR1X. This upgrade includes “modified chassis controls calibrations,” better suspension spring rates, more carbon fiber aero, and Michelin Pilot Cup 2R tires, which are especially important for hot-lappers at the Nürburgring. A hypercar that initially costs $207,000 can quickly reach $240,000 when all costs are added up. On the one hand, I want to criticize Chevy for making the ZR1X trim codes look like those of the Equinox and for adding luxury features like heated and ventilated seats and extra speakers to a $200,000 car. But there’s no denying that the ZR1X is a great deal, even when it comes with everything it needs. The ZR1X is similar to cars from across the pond that cost 10 or 20 times more and have the same specs, but GM will use this as a source of pride against its peers across the street. Even though it has less than half of the Vette’s horsepower, the Porsche 911 GT3 RS can lap the Green Hell in tenths of the time it takes the ZR1X, and it costs more than $50,000 more than the ZR1X. But power isn’t everything. The Quail Silver Limited Edition stands as the most exclusive ZR1X variant, debuting at a starting price of $241,395. That’s the model shown in the photos. It’s painted Blade Silver Matte, which looks a lot like the Inca Silver paint that was used on the first Corvette. Chevy’s press statement says that the Quail ZR1X will be shown to the public for the first time on August 15 at the Monterey Car Week event. This will also be “the debut of GM Design’s inspiration for the future of Corvette.” While I’ve always liked yellow Corvettes, especially the Z06 and ZR1, the orange brakes really stand out against the silver.
