We miss that fewer cars are for sale in other countries than there used to be. Suzuki Jimny shows this. We can’t help but wish we had one, even though we don’t think many Americans would buy this big car. Unlike small crossovers like the Ford Bronco Sport and Jeep Renegade, the Jimny is a genuine, old-school off-roader with a ladder chassis and a natural four-wheel drive system. The most recent Suzuki Jimny was a massive hit in Europe, Japan, and other parts of the world, and its replacement will be powered by electricity. They announced Suzuki’s plan for 2030 on Thursday. It includes a lot of electric and hybrid vehicles. The new Jimny wasn’t talked about by name in the presentation, but an EV Jimny was shown on a slide that showed new models coming to Europe. The Jimny has a 1.5-liter four-cylinder engine with 101 hp, but in Japan, it can also come with a 660-cc turbo three-cylinder engine to meet kei-car standards. Suzuki showed off a five-door Jimny model, which will be made by the company’s Indian subsidiary, Maruti Suzuki. Even though a five-door, electric Jimny would be more appealing than a mediocre three-door, don’t expect it to be brought to the US. Suzuki said the company would focus on Southeast Asia, Japan, India, and Europe. The presentation slides say Suzuki will sell the Jimny EV only in Europe. Instead, they will get an electric Hustler, a cross between a Jimny and a Hustler.
