• The EPA range numbers for the 2023 Hyundai Ioniq 6 are now out and are better than the company had expected.
  • The model with the most extended range can still go 270 miles on one charge, while the model with the best efficiency can go 361 miles on a single mission.
  • All range estimates are based on a battery pack with 77.4 kWh. After launch, a smaller group with less range will be added to the lineup.

When Hyundai first showed off the Ioniq 6 sedan, they said it would have the most options out of all of its E-GMP platform siblings. The EPA just came out with official numbers, and the results back up those claims.

With 18-inch wheels, the Ioniq 6 SE with rear-wheel drive and 225 hp is said to have a range of 361 miles. The all-wheel-drive, 320-hp dual-motor SE gives you a range of 316 miles.

The SEL and Limited trim levels are expected to range 305 miles with a single motor and RWD and 270 miles with two engines and AWD (with 20-inch wheels).

Based on these range estimates, the Ioniq 6 will only be sold with the 77.4-kWh battery pack when it goes on sale this spring. In the second half of the model year, a 53-kWh version with a smaller battery and less range will be added to the lineup.

Even though it has the same engine and battery pack as the Ioniq 5, Kia EV6, and Genesis GV60, the Ioniq 6 can go farther than those three electric cars. Some credit goes to the sleek aerodynamic design of the banana-shaped sedan, which claims to have a drag coefficient of only 0.22.

When asked why Ioniq 6 models with 20-inch wheels had a much longer range than those with 18s, Hyundai said that the smaller wheels are also narrower and have tires with less rolling resistance. The SE model is also lighter than the SEL and Limited versions because it doesn’t have as much equipment.

The Ioniq 6, like the previous vehicles built on the E-GMP platform, can charge at 400 and 800 volts. Hyundai says that a 350-kW charger can bring the Ioniq 6’s battery from 10% to 80% complete in less than 20 minutes. Using a readily available adaptor, the car can also power things outside of it via V2L (vehicle-to-load).

This spring, you’ll be able to buy the Ioniq 6. We don’t know the price yet, but it will be less than $50,000.
