• Genesis has unveiled two new concept vehicles derived from the G90 full-size luxury sedan, both of which exhibit a design that suggests they are ready for production.
  • The X Gran Coupe Concept features a harmonious fusion of green hues and warm brown tones, taking inspiration from the Mediterranean olive tree.
  • Named the X Gran Convertible Concept, this vehicle combines a luxurious violet exterior with a deep blue interior, drawing its inspiration from Italy’s Livorno wine region.

The 2021 Genesis X Concept from the luxury carmaker was a great show. It connected the “Two-Lines” lighting features to the brand. The first X was beautiful, but as the name suggests, it was just an idea. Genesis has shown two new concept cars that look like they could be made based on its most popular car, the G90 full-size luxury sedan.

The Genesis G90, Which Is The Company's Top-Of-The-Line Sedan, Showed Off Two New Concept Cars

The X Gran Coupe and X Gran Convertible are the names of the two ideas. Back are the two-line headlights and taillights. Both ideas take on many of the sedan’s style cues, which makes the connection to the G90 clear right away.

There are now two more air vents on either side of the diamond-shaped front grille, which sits lower on the front fascia. This is a hint that the ideas are not exact copies of the production G90. The rear bumper has been smoothed out, and the front panels have been made longer to draw attention to the taillight design.

Genesis thinks that the Gran Coupe Concept looks more like a sports car hood because the roof and cant rails are built in. Our view of the Gran Coupe Convertible Concept with the top down shows that the beltline has been moved back to split the body from the soft top. However, we have not seen the concept with the top-up.

Hyundai says that the Gran Coupe Concept was inspired by olive trees in the Mediterranean. The green paint on the outside is matched by a brown and green interior with an olive wood veneer finished with a microperforated pattern that looks like an olive branch.

Another source of ideas for the X Gran Convertible Concept is the Mediterranean Sea. However, the colors used are a bit more vivid. Genesis says that the deep blue inside came from Cabernet Sauvignon grapes from the Livorno region of Italy, and the bright violet outside came from the color of grapes that have been squeezed.

It’s important to note that Genesis didn’t talk about the powertrain when they showed off the car, even though past X concepts had an electric drivetrain that wasn’t shown. These new ideas are based on the brand’s current flagship model. We think Genesis will decide to make these ideas into high-end G90 offshoots since they look almost ready for production. We’ll be there as long as they use the same color scheme as the X Gran Convertible.
