• The Grande Panda 4×4 concept, a “direct heir” to the Panda 4×4 of the 1980s, was unveiled by Fiat.
  • A roof rack for additional storage, fender cladding, and a stunning red paint job are all features of the new design. It has knobby tires and steel wheels.
  • It’s safe to assume that the new Grande Panda won’t be offered in the US since Fiat hasn’t even confirmed manufacturing, but we think they ought to reevaluate these claims.

There are several options available to us in the US when it comes to tiny crossovers. That said, it doesn’t mean we aren’t hoping for more. The idea of the Grande Panda 4×4 being available in the U.S. genuinely thrilled us when Fiat introduced the impressive new concept.

The Grande Panda 4x4 Looks Like A Fiat That Would Appeal To Americans

Though it looks rougher and more competent than it actually is, the adorable little Panda has a brawny styling with steel wheels and the required fender cladding that denotes its 4×4 classification. Fiat claims that the new Grande Panda design is a “direct heir” of the 1983-introduced original Panda 4×4. This vehicle quickly gained popularity among off-road enthusiasts because to its low cost and high riding height.

The new concept takes its inspiration from Fiat’s existing Grande Panda, which is offered in hybrid and electric versions. According to Fiat, the Grande Panda 4×4 concept includes an “electrified innovative rear axle.” However, since it remains just a concept, Fiat hasn’t provided specific details, leaving us to speculate about what powers the front axle.

Autocar has not verified manufacturing plans, but Fiat’s European CEO, Gaetano Thorel, hinted that it will eventually be available for purchase.  In an interview with Autocar, Thorel stated that “we will definitely have this car on the road in the future but not tomorrow.”

If Fiat chooses to move forward with producing the Grande Panda 4×4, the Italian automaker should seriously consider introducing it to the North American market. Americans do not find the brand’s electric 500e appealing, as evidenced by the fact that less than 1000 of them were sold in the US last year. Elevated crossovers that seem off-road competent appeal to Americans, and the 2017 Grande Panda 4×4 projecting that impression despite its small size does just that.
