The GTD Costs More Than The 2026 Mustang RTR Spec 5, But It's Cheaper And Has More Horsepower

A two-time Formula Drift winner named Vaughn Gittin Jr. wants you to really love smoking and Ford Mustangs. And what’s needed is a supercharged V-8 that lights up the back tires, whips a J-turn, and basically wrecks the racetrack. Now, the crazy scientists at RTR Vehicles have built a brand-new “Stang” that’s ready to wreck the road.

The 2026 Spec 5 is referred to as a futuristic pony car by RTR. The Spec 5 was RTR’s most popular car for a long time because it showed off all of the company’s go-faster features.

In this case, things are a lot stranger than normal. The frame is built on a Ford Mustang GT chassis that features the Performance package and Recaro seats as optional upgrades. RTR then uses a hybrid widebody with large areas of exposed carbon fiber to send a symbolic dose of gamma rays, similar to the one that turned Bruce Banner into the Hulk.

That it can be put next to a Mustang GTD shows how crazy it looks. The current Ford track-spec king even pays tribute to it. Under the surface of the Spec 5, a full set of moving suspension pieces is present. Although it comes set up for a street/track mix, owners can adjust it as needed.

It has a 5.0-liter V-8 engine that is boosted. It makes more than 870 horsepower and 660 pound-feet of torque. Even owners will be surprised by how much power the GTD has, since it only makes 815 horsepower. Even better, the Spec 5 comes with several different gearboxes. You can choose between a 10-speed automatic transmission or a real six-speed manual gearbox.

The Michelin Pilot Sport 4S set features 20-inch wheels with large rubber tires, measuring 305 mm in width at the front and 315 mm at the rear. There are two-piece rotor brakes with six-pot front and four-pot rear Brembo cylinders.

Next, there are the Gittin Jr. changes, which alter the Spec 5’s taste. The official Mustang from Ford wants to set a lap time at the Nürburgring, hit the apexes, and take things seriously. In addition, the Spec 5 is designed for speed, but Gittin Jr.’s biography describes him as a “Professional Fun-Haver.”

The Spec 5 features a preset drift stop that helps you start making great, smoky drifts. Like a Formula Drift car that you can drive on the road, you can take it to a nearby track and race around the turns, or have fun.

Each of the 50 RTR Spec 5s produced annually can be customized with various wheel and paint styles. A Mustang starts at $159,999, which is a significant amount of money, but comparable to some Corvette models.

So, if you’ve been thinking about smoking (tire), don’t listen to your doctor and go straight to RTR’s buy page. It looks like having fun is a good thing to have, even if you’re not a worker.
