You know, the long, low, popular sports car the Kia Stinger left us a few years ago. Do you miss it? Honda showed off two beautiful four-door cars called “GT” at this week’s Shanghai auto show. They are made with help from GAC and Dongfeng, two state-owned Chinese cars, and will only be sold in China. Their full names are GAC Honda GT and Dongfeng Honda GT. The GT twins are the newest models in Honda’s Ye Series, a line of electric cars only sold in China. They have nothing to do with the famous rapper of the same name. The GTs look good from the outside, and they could easily be mistaken for the next version of the Accord. They wouldn’t look out of place on American roads. In their news release, Honda says it right away: “They are clearly low and wide.” Inside, there are six screens, including the two digital rearview mirrors, making them a tech fest. That’s three or four too many. Still, that is a view on the subject that is only found in the West. Any Chinese customers think of their cars as a “third living space” because of the country’s notorious traffic jams. As a result, they are more interested in cars that let them do all the things they could do at home or at their desk while they’re driving. Additionally, many Chinese people don’t have strong opinions about what should and shouldn’t be in a car’s interior because they are just starting to buy their own cars. His is different from most Westerners. Anyway, one big change on the Honda GT is a slightly oversized steering wheel with small “Honda” writing on the horn. Other than that, most of the switchgear found in Hondas is recognizable, like the company’s button-based gear selection module and buttons. I wish Honda had given us more information about the GT’s speed so that we could tell if it lived up to its name, even though no specs have been released yet. At the very least, it looks stylish.
