• After putting it through our normal testing process, we found that the 2024 Mercedes-AMG GT63 S E-Performance was the fastest four-door non-EV car we had ever tried.
  • We rocketed to 60 mph in only 2.4 seconds, reached 100 mph in 5.9 seconds, and continued through the quarter-mile in 10.5 seconds at a speed of 131 mph.
  • The plug-in hybrid benefits from a 201-horsepower rear-mounted electric motor, which boosts the GT63 S’s total output to 831 horsepower.

When we tested the 2024 Mercedes-AMG GT63 S E-Performance 4-Door with instruments for the last time, we noticed something interesting: When plug-in hybrid power was added, this racing car went from being very fast to being so damn fast that you would yell, “Holy hell!”  “What just took place?” When we tried it, it got to 60 mph in just 2.4 seconds, making it the fastest four-door car that wasn’t an electric vehicle.

The Mercedes-AMG GT63 S PHEV Is The Fastest Non-Electric Four-Door Vehicle We've Ever Tested

The GT63 S accelerates from 131 mph to 100 mph in just 5.9 seconds, and it can complete a quarter-mile in 10.5 seconds quite impressive. To assess how the new PHEV model stacks up, we compared it to a 2019 model that didn’t require plugging in. The 2019 version boasted the same 630-hp twin-turbo V-8 engine and could accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in 2.8 seconds. It also finished the quarter-mile in 11.0 seconds at 125 mph and reached 100 mph in 6.9 seconds, taking a full second longer than the GT63 S.

The PHEV is faster than its predecessor, even though it weighs 5252 pounds, which is about 570 pounds more. In the GT63 S hybrid, there is a 201-hp electric motor paired with a two-speed transmission at the rear, while the front houses a 630-hp turbocharged V-8, combining to produce a total of 831 horsepower. Mercedes says that the EPA-rated 5-kWh battery, which has a range of one mile, can only give the motor its full 201 horsepower for 10 seconds, during which time the speed goes over 130 mph. After that, the output slowly drops to 94 horsepower.

What does the GT63 S E-Performance 4-Door score on our list of the fastest cars? The 2025 Porsche Taycan Turbo GT was the first car we tested that accelerated in less than two seconds. It now takes 1.9 seconds to go from 0 to 60 mph, making it our top pick. The GT63 S hybrid is the fourth fastest EV we’ve tested, with a time of 2.4 seconds. It’s the same speed as the Ferrari 296GTB hybrid, which is the fastest rear-wheel-drive car we’ve tried. A few rare cars that use internal combustion engines are also faster than it, like the McLaren 750S, the Porsche 911 Turbo S with the Lightweight package, and the Lamborghini Huracán Performante.
