• The amazing MG Cyberster electric roadster has become the Cyber GTS, a hardtop version.
  • The idea has a 2+2 layout, even though the interior still needs to be finished.
  • The roof is just an idea for the Goodwood Festival of Speed right now, but MG will use the event to gauge fans’ interest in seeing one built.

It was shown for the first time in the UK this week at the Goodwood Festival of Speed. MG is paying tribute to its past once more with the Cyber GTS concept. The GTS idea makes its appearance as a hardtop version of the MG Cyberster roadster that is coming out soon.

The MG Cyber GTS idea has huge potential for automotive innovation and excitement

The GTS Concept is based on the MGC GTS Sebring race car from the late 1960s, while the Cyberster is based on the famous MG roadster. There’s not a lot of information about the Concept yet, but what we do know looks good.

MG didn’t just add a roof to the Cyberster and call it a day; they worked hard to make the GTS unique. First, MG’s head of design, Josef Kaban, told Top Gear that the prototype’s interior was set up with two rows of two seats each. The idea car still looks like a roadster, but as you get closer to the inside, you can see how it’s going to be designed. The roofline flows easily into the back decklid and ends in a duckbill spoiler, which makes the body look like a fastback.

Even though MG has only said that the engine will be electric and the car will be driven from the rear, it is reasonable to expect the coupe to be similar to the roadster. This car has two electric motors. The rear one makes a solid 335 horsepower. The Cyber GTS is likely to have a single-motor design with the same amount of power.

The GTS Concept is only an idea right now, but it looks like MG is testing the waters to see how much interest there is in making a real car. The GTS Concept and the Cyberster will not be coming to the United States, which is a shame.
