The price of Acura’s new Integra Type S has been made public. It is a hot hatchback with 320 horsepower that shares motor parts with the Honda Civic Type R. If you thought the Acura model would be more expensive, well done. You’ve hit VTEC with your reasoning. The starting price of the 2024 Acura Integra Type S is $51,995, which is not as much more than the starting price of the Civic, which is $44,890.

Like the Honda, we think the Integra Type S will only come in a few colors and with a limited number of dealer-installed options. Acura and Honda have the same limited-slip front differential, six-speed manual gearbox, turbocharged 2.0-liter I-4 engine, and basic suspension design.

Acura gets rid of Type R’s more powerful features. For example, the Type S loses its tall rear wing, but the Integra’s interior is better than the Civics’ simple cabin. In return for the Civic Type R’s Bose sound system, the Integra gets a powerful 16-speaker ELS sound system and heated sport seats that aren’t quite as loud as the Honda’s. The basic idea is that the Honda is the more track-oriented and active hot hatch, while the Acura is the more luxurious and user-friendly.

It will be interesting to see if people choose the more expensive Acura. Most, if not all, Integra Type S users likely know that Honda made the car. That might be good for some die-hard fans. Even so, the Acura’s price is still beautiful, as long as it has a similar speed to the Type R in a more luxurious package. The BMW M2 ($63,195) and the Mercedes-AMG CLA45 ($58,950) are high-performance copies of other entry-level luxury cars that cost much more. Like the standard Integra, the Type S is cheaper than these luxury brands’ least expensive and most miniature models.
