Last fall, Jeep showed off the Avenger, a small SUV, as its first electric vehicle (E.V.) for the European market. With the new 600e, Fiat has put its spin on the same base. It looks good, has an excellent all-electric range, and has a stylish cabin. Fiat says the electric underpinnings improve the “Dolce Vita feel” and make the interior room bigger. We’ll have to develop a new test to determine what that means.

In the 1950s, Fiat made a slightly bigger version of the original 500, when the name “600” was first used. The new “600e” fills a similar role in the Fiat lineup. The 600e is 164.2 inches long, 14.0 inches longer than the 500e. One of the most miniature cars on the U.S. market right now, the 2023 Kia Rio is about 8 inches shorter. The 600e can still fit five people and has a cargo room with about 13 cubic feet of space.

The 600e, like the Avenger, has a lithium-ion battery with a capacity of 54.0 kWh and a range of more than 249 miles on the European WLTP test cycle, which is usually more hopeful than the EPA’s. Fiat says that the 600e will do best in cities with a range of more than 373 miles. Fiat says that the 600e’s battery can be charged to 80% in less than 30 minutes at up to 100 kW. The 600e has a single electric engine that sends 154 horsepower to the front wheels. Fiat says it can go from 0 to 62 mph in 9.0 seconds.

Like the 500e, the 600e has a round shape with many smooth areas and attractive parts. The running lights behind the round LED headlights are matched by a body-coloured trim, just like on the 500e. Inside the wheel arches are beautiful 18-inch wheels with black accents that go down the side skirts, at least on higher model levels. The car has a “600e” sign on every side, and the Italian flag colours are used for the logo on the back.

The curved interior has a 10.3-inch screen that works wirelessly with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. This is a continuation of the oval design idea. This is paired with a 7.0-inch digital gauge display. The 600e also has a wireless charger and a lot of USB ports. There are eight different colours for the atmospheric lighting, and the car also has a hands-free power liftgate and a six-speaker sound system. Fiat says the power-adjustable driver’s seat, which has a back massager built-in, will give you “complete Italian spa time.”

After the electric version 600e is sold in Italy in September, a hybrid engine will be added by the middle of the year. After that, Fiat needs to clarify what it plans to do with the 600e. The 600e is a few inches longer than the 500X, which has been on the market since 2016. Fiat’s CEO told Car and Driver last year that the 500X won’t be replaced in the U.S. because the company is only focused on the 500e, which will hit the market in 2024. This means that the 600e will never be a possibility.
