The newly developed Michelin Pilot Sport S5 tires are now available for the Porsche 911 GT3 RS. Developed in collaboration with Porsche, Michelin’s new PSS5 tire was specifically designed for cold and wet conditions. Wet-weather tires for the GT3 RS will be 275/35ZR-20 wide up front and 335/30ZR-21 wide in the back. Prices have not been released yet. On a racetrack, the Porsche 911 GT3 RS is an amazing car when its full potential is shown. When the weather gets wet and cold, though, it loses some of its performance ability. To deal with these bad conditions, Porsche has released a new Michelin Pilot Sport S5 tire for the track-focused 911 that is made for wet circumstances. The letter “N” on the tire shows that Michelin and Porsche worked together to make the new PSS5, which was made just for the German car company. Porsche said that on Michelin’s 1.7-mile testing track in the rain, a GT3 RS with a PSS5 was more than 10 seconds faster than the same car with a pair of Pilot Sport Cup 2s during the development phase. The tread design is very different. It has four big grooves in the middle that are 0.3 inches deep and help with grip when it’s wet. The depth of the tread is meant to make more negative tread, which helps move water away. Porsche says that the Pilot Sport S5 tires for wet conditions warm up quickly and work best when the temperature is between 40 and 60 degrees Fahrenheit. These tires are made of a high silica rubber blend. Of course, Porsche says that they were designed to have a wide range of performance outside of cold and wet conditions, so they’re not useless when it’s above 68 degrees outside. The 911 GT3 RS’s back tires are 335/30ZR-21, and the front tires are 275/35ZR-20. Porsche has not yet made the price of the new Michelin Pilot Sport S5 tires public. However, the company says that only U.S. Porsche Centers will be able to sell them when they become available as part of its tire service program.
