Tesla may just be dipping its toes in the water after saying it didn’t need advertising for a decade. Still, the company has always looked for stunts that show off its significant technological advances, like “self-driving” cars or cars that dance with lights. Tesla tested its Tesla Model S Plaid with the brand’s track package on the famous German Nürburgring track years ago to compete with other automakers. It says that it recently broke a record for an all-electric production car. Again.

The company only has a typical public relations staff or anyone to talk to outside of sales and service if you want to try CEO Elon Musk on Twitter. The Tesla Model S Plaid with the Track Package did a lap of the Nürburgring Nordschleife in 7:25.231, faster than the Porsche Taycan, which set the previous record on Friday, June 2. In the social media posts, the names of the Tesla engineers and the supposedly skilled driver were not given. On the other hand, Swedish driver Andreas Simonsen has worked for Tesla before.

The Porsche Macan Turbo S EV was the fastest production electric car until the Tesla 7:35.579 beat it in 2021. In August 2022, the improved Taycan returned to the famous German racetrack almost 13 miles long. It set a new record with a time of 7:33:350. With Porsche’s Dynamic Chassis Control, the Taycan has a set of performance features only available in Germany. The car must also have a roll cage on the ‘Ring. The new record time for Tesla is more than 8 seconds faster than the old record for Porsche, which is impressive on such a challenging track.

In Tesla’s last record-setting run, the controversial steering handle was used, but the driver used a regular round steering wheel for this run. InsideEVs says that the price for different parts of the track package, an upgrade for the Model S Plaid car, starts at $15,000. It’s currently unavailable and sold out. It needs to be clarified if it sold out before or after the American automaker’s news this weekend that it broke a record. The track package has better carbon ceramic brakes, “Zero-G” wheels of forged metal, and Goodyear Eagle 3R rubber tires.

The Plaid differs from other cars because it has a three-motor all-wheel drive system that can go up to 200 mph. MotorTrend said the Plaid has 1,020 horsepower, 1,050 pound-feet of torque, and can accelerate to 60 mph in 2.1 seconds (without the speed kit). With its most recent record, Tesla seems to have made the car much more capable. We are waiting for Porsche and other car companies to try to break the record.
