We learned earlier this year that Infiniti would be making a sedan again, and that the car would be called the “Q70S.” It would have a strong engine, rear-wheel drive, and a manual gearbox. What do you know? You mostly got it right with what you said. The model’s name hasn’t been revealed yet, but Infiniti plans to make it available by 2027. Then why not now? Why do you need a car too? Even though Infiniti recently stopped making high-end sedans, Nissan is still making the Skyline (formerly the Q50) for the US market. Infiniti’s vice president for the Americas, Tiago Castro, said the company is not interested in an easy restart right now, even though it would be possible with minimal effort. Cruz mentioned to me this week during a brief one-on-one meeting, “Our goal is to return to Infiniti’s roots and create a product lineup that will help us sustain and expand market demand.” In addition, he said that the car would be more focused on speed than aesthetics. Please think of us as curious. Coming out with just one new model a year will allow Infiniti to concentrate on the high-end market, which Castro says has more room for growth than the overall market. Besides that, he said that customers you want are more likely to stay loyal to you. If Infiniti can get richer customers, it will be easier to explain why it chose to move to a smaller showroom. So, it wants to be seen as a high-end alternative to other “vanilla” goods on the market. As Castro put it, Infiniti will have to “do less, but do it very, very well” to reach its goals. This will change how Infiniti markets its sedans. As with the G and Q lines before it, there will be only a few types. The company will make only one racing car to appeal to a specific group of people. With the exception of the M3, BMW was very close to ending all three of its styles. It makes sense that a new performance-focused sport sedan would want to be the exact opposite of vanilla —the standard in the business. Castro did not, however, set a performance goal at this early stage of the game.
