The 50 Jahre Edition is a new, limited-edition M340i xDrive BMW being made to mark 50 years of selling the 3-Series. One unique thing about the M340i is that its paint job is different from the E21, E30, E36, E46, and E90 generations, which are the first five 3-series models. An extra $11,500 is added to the price of the special version, which starts at $76,375. It might surprise you to learn that the BMW 3 Series has been produced for 50 years. The now-famous car made its debut around the world in Munich’s Olympic Stadium in July 1975. It has sold well and given rise to seven (and now eight) different models since then. To mark 50 years of selling the 3-series, BMW is releasing the 50 Jahre version, a limited-edition M340i xDrive. In honor of the 3-series’ past, BMW is bringing back paint colors from five previous sedan generations: the E21, E30, E36, E46, and E90. This is part of the 50 Jahre Edition. For people who don’t know much about BMW’s past, the paint colors represent the first five 3-Series models. Inside each Jahr Edition, the chosen paint color is matched, and for the first time in the US, the 3 Series offers Extended Merino Leather. Steel cars that are ruby red with ivory seats and red brake calipers. Avus Blue Metallic and Boston Green Metallic cars can have blue brake pads and Tartufo upholstery. Sparkling Graphite Metallic cars have Tartufo seats and red brake calipers. Carbon Black Metallic cars have black brake calipers and upholstery. BMW only sent pictures of the car in its Avus Blue Metallic color, which is a shame. It also comes with the Shadowline Package, which includes adjustable LED lighting, a carbon-fiber rear spoiler, and Shadowline trim on the kidney grille and lower air intake. To make it stand out from other models, it features special-edition stickers on the outside and inside, as well as the M Performance exhaust. The 50 Jahre Edition is cool, but it’s expensive. The Jahre fees $11,500 more than the base 2026 M340i xDrive, which costs $76,375. The limited-edition car works the same way as the regular type. The gap starts to narrow, though, when you consider the speed exhaust, all the carbon fiber and leather upgrades, and the rest of the upgrades. BMW wouldn’t say how many 50 Jahre Editions will be made and brought into the US, but we think it will be hundreds. BMW thinks that the Jahre cars will start to be delivered in the first quarter of 2026, even though production is already well underway.
