• The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) recalls 448,613 Honda and Acura cars because the front seatbelts might not latch properly.
  • Some recalled models are the Acura RDX, the Honda Accord and Accord Hybrid, the Honda CR-V, the Honda Insight, and the Honda Odyssey. The affected model years range from 2018 to 2020.
  • Due to a flaw in how it was made, the front seat belt buckle channel may “interfere with the release button,” making it impossible for the seatbelt to latch correctly. Because of this, there have been no accidents or injuries.

The front seat belts on Honda cars from the 2018 to 2020 model years might not latch properly, which makes it more likely that someone will get hurt in an accident. Because of this, Honda will call back almost 450,000 of these cars. According to the recall notice filed by the NHTSA, there have been 301 warranty claims for this problem since the beginning of 2019. This issue has not caused accidents or deaths.

The 2019 and 2020 Acura RDX, the 2018–2019 Honda Accord and Accord Hybrid, the 2017–2020 Honda CR-V, the 2019 Honda Insight, and the 2018–2020 Honda Odyssey are all on the list.

Even though 448,613 cars are being called back, the model numbers were not given. Honda reportedly started looking into the problem in 2019. At first, they thought the seat belt buckle channel had shrunk because of cold temperatures. Honda finally decided that the problem was “broader in scope” and had to do with the button for the seat belt buckle. Documents from the NHTSA say that the problem will be fixed by putting in a more prominent button to release the hook. The owner can get their money back if they have already paid to fix the seat belt.

Honda has already started telling dealers, and on April 17, they will tell car owners. In the meantime, Acura and Honda owners can check the NHTSA’s website for recalls to see if their cars are affected.
