Ford is calling back 382,759 SUVs because there may be a problem with the backup cameras that could make it hard to see what is being filmed. The Ford Explorer, the Lincoln Aviator, and the Lincoln Corsair are all models for 2020 through 2023. Ford says the problem only happens with the 360-degree camera system rather than the regular rearview camera. It could cause the Sync infotainment system to fail in an unpredictable way that only shows a blue picture. Ford has told the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) about a recall because the 360-degree rear view camera system has a problem with the video feed. The Ford Explorer, the Lincoln Aviator, the 2020-2022 Lincoln Corsair, and the 2020-2023 Lincoln Corsair are all affected by the problem. According to the recall report, the problem can sometimes lead to a blank blue screen. The cars affected are Ford Explorers made between October 19, 2018, and January 3, 2023, 279,700 cars. As of November 30, 2022, Ford had heard about 2,115 warranty claims about blue images on the rearview camera. Ford also said that it knows of 17 “small incidents” that may have been caused by the blue-screen problem, but no one has been hurt. After letting the owners know on February 20, dealers will update the software for the camera system’s image processing module for free. In the meantime, owners of these SUVs can check the NHTSA recalls page to see if their vehicle is covered or to find out more.
