Get Lost, a new company based in London has released the Lotus Elise S1 with off-road skills. This is called “Project Safari.” This Elise restaurant is designed like a safari vehicle. It has a very light engine and can jump. What’s not to love? The engine and price have not been announced yet, but production will start this year. The first-generation Lotus Elise debuted in 1996 but was never officially offered in the United States. However, it is currently approved for import under the 25-year DOT policy. With a weight of only 1600 pounds, it provides one of the most basic driving sensations possible, rivaled only by its predecessor, the Lotus 7. Since this is about as close as cars can get to the experience of motorcycling, it’s no real surprise that someone has chosen to transform an Elise S1 into a dirt bike. The Get Lost: Project Safari is an Elise that can go off-road and comes with rally-style secondary lights and long-travel suspension. The Elise has always been a lot of fun for how heavy it is, but now it’s on a whole new level thanks to its very low weight and open-top motor, which can do some amazing jumps. Have fun! George Williams, an automobile photographer who has documented everything from the latest Bugatti to the upcoming Zenvo Aurora, is the founder of the new U.K.-based company Get Lost. He stated in the press release, “Taking an Elise off-road might seem absurd, and that’s precisely why we embraced the idea.” Aside from the great pictures you’d expect from a professional car camera, the Project Safari Elise doesn’t have many real mechanical details. The LED lights and side lamps look great, and the roof scoop is both pretty and useful. It shouldn’t be too hard to make the inside look more upscale, and the extra tire that’s built-in is a nice touch. The first one was as fancy as a church chair. However, no information is given about the engine other than the fact that the vehicle has a hydraulic handbrake, a limited-slip differential, and a suspension that was designed to handle rough terrain. It was possible to buy the S1 Elise in the US without the original Rover 1.8-liter four-cylinder engine. Instead, the 1.8-liter engine from the Integra Type R was used by Sun International, a different business. There were only a few of these cars made, but a 1600-pound curb weight and a roaring Honda engine go together like peanut butter and jelly. In this case, a reliable Japanese four-cylinder engine makes the most sense since both the Evora and the second-generation Elise S2 that the US did get were driven by Toyota. But Get Lost’s whole plan is to do the thing that seems the least likely to work, so it may have a rotating engine. As the company has said, its goal is to start making cars with lomanytomization options in 2025. Some of the restaurants that are out there include air-cooled Porsche 911s that cost seven figures and Isuzu pickup trucks that run on diesel. But for only five pounds, this monster looks like a lot of fun. Without a doubt, the best way to get away is to get lost in a Lotus that can go off-road.
