The Transportation Safety Administration (NHTSA) started looking into Tesla after hearing that Model Y steering wheels were falling off their matching columns. According to documents released by the NHTSA on Wednesday, the steering wheel came loose from the steering column in two 2023 Tesla Model Y cars. In these cases, the Model Ys did not come with the bolt that holds the wheel to the column. According to the records, both accidents happened when the cars had fewer miles on them. The NHTSA says that more than 120,000 vehicles are part of the investigation, which started on March 4. The Associated Press says that one of the complaints in the NHTSA document can be linked to a tweet that has gone viral and shows a video of a wheel coming off and a car being towed. Before Tesla stopped the payment, the owner had already been charged $103.96 to fix the wheel. The Verge says that the owner will soon get a brand-new Model Y. The investigation comes after Tesla recalled 362,000 cars because of a problem with its self-driving beta system, which the NHTSA says may make it more likely that a car accident will happen while it is in use. This is just the newest in a long line of Tesla recalls that started with the 2012 model year.
