Reuters says that Volvo is making six new electric cars that will be shown to the public over the next four years. Using its relationship with the Geely Group, Volvo is reportedly making an electric minivan based on the Zeekr 009 and electric versions of the company’s SUVs and sedans. Reports say the Volvo minivan will have a more “emotional” look. Most likely, it is made for Asian markets, where luxury vans are more popular than in the U.S. Volvo released the EX90 at the end of last year. It is a three-row SUV that is the company’s first E.V. built from the ground up. The EX90 is Volvo’s first step toward making all cars electric by 2030. It’s an electric version of the XC90, which Volvo has been producing since 2002. Reuters says there is more information about Volvo’s move to electric vehicles (E.V.s). By the end of 2026, the Swedish company will have at least six new electric vehicles, one for each significant market segment. Electric versions of the EX90 will replace the S60 and S90 sedans and the XC60 and XC40 crossovers. During the launch of the EX90, there were hints about the EX30, which will be shown on June 15 and will be a little smaller than the XC40 Recharge. It is still determined whether this model will be sold in the United States. A report from February 2022 said that two “activity vehicles” that look like wagons were in the works, but it’s still not clear what shape these cars will take. Now, what will happen to Volvo’s well-known wagons in the future needs to be clarified. Reuters said that two sources said Volvo’s E.V. the attack would also include a high-end minivan aimed at Asian customers. This idea would be similar to the Zeekr 009, and Geely, a Chinese company that owns 82 percent of Volvo, would benefit from it. The 009 made its debut in October. It has a brutalist design, a large 140.0 kWh battery pack with a range of 500 miles, and a dual-motor powertrain with 536 horsepower. In China, three rows of seats in the 009’s plush cabin cost the same as $74,000. The van is being made in Volvo’s Shanghai R&D center, which is also in charge of making the electric sedans that the company plans to make. Reuters says that the unit has grown to fill a bigger space and has 60 designers working for it. The van’s style will also differ from the company’s usually sad, serious look. Instead, it will look more like the dramatic Zeekr, a crucial part of many high-end vans popular in Asia, like the Toyota Alphard. We’re interested in Volvo’s work because of the Zeekr 009’s design and powerful engine. We hope that Volvo will think about bringing it to the U.S. as an alternative to the U.S.’s love of big SUVs.
