• Before it was renamed the LFA Concept, Lexus had a different “sport” based concept car, and the production vehicle brought back the brand’s famous supercar name.
  • After months of guesswork, Lexus has now revealed that the LFA will have an electric motor.
  • The Lexus was designed with the new GR GT and GR GT3 race cars in mind. It has a different look and won’t be sold for a few years.

We Now Know That The New Lexus LFA, Which Was Hidden In Plain Sight, Is Really An EV

The Lexus LFA is back for real! We can finally put to rest the reports that the LFR will follow in the footsteps of the famous LFA supercar. Now that Lexus unveiled the second-generation LFA Sport Concept at The Quail during Monterey Car Week in August, its design can finally be put to rest. Because Lexus had already shown the concept’s interior at the Tokyo Auto Show in October, there wasn’t much reason to be shocked when the LFA Concept was revealed alongside Toyota’s new GR GT supercar and its race-spec GT3 partner today.

What else do we know about the Lexus LFA that’s coming out? Unlike its GR-branded platform mate, which has a hybrid twin-turbo V-8, we now know it will be an electric car. What are the speed and horsepower numbers? The LFA is just an idea, so the details about those specs will come out later. The GR GT will be the first to come. It should go on sale in the United States in late 2024, and it will cost about $500,000. But it will be a few years before the production version actually reaches Lexus dealerships.

Even though Lexus hasn’t shared the LFA’s performance or powertrain details, the fact that it was built alongside the GR GT and GT3 race cars provides more insight. The three cars all have a long hood and a short rear deck, and they are all made of metal. The GT has four megacastings that support the suspension at all angles. Also, the LFA and GT have the same 107.3-inch wheelbase. The Lexus design is 2 inches shorter and 1.6 inches wider than the other, even though they are both 47 inches tall.

Lexus took the RC and RC F off the market, so it lost two cars that were really focused on the driver. Just like the first-generation LFA, the new LFA is projected to cost over $100,000, meaning most people won’t be able to buy it. But when it is introduced, it will give the group a goal to work toward. Its growth focused mostly on ensuring the driver could sit in the best position and on building a car with a low center of gravity and a strong chassis. Even if the ideal car’s interior looks a little different in real life, the driver will still be the main point of interest.

The driver of the LFA Concept looks at a large screen that displays all the details they need. The yoke-style turning wheel can be changed, so the driver doesn’t have to move their hands over each other. Basic switchgear circles the wheel. This includes paddle-shaped buttons for “F-mode” and “Custom,” plus a rotary gear choice on the stalk to the right of the column. What do the rest of the switches do? We don’t know. We expect Lexus to introduce the production model sometime next year, which will give us more information.
