Maserati accomplished this feat with its V-8 engines, which are relatively easy for any manufacturer to perfect. The eight-cylinder rumble of these automobiles has been instantly recognizable from the days of the 5000 GT Scia di Persia right up until today. Maserati is producing the Ghibli 334 Ultima and the Levante V8 Ultima, its final two vehicles with V-8 engines, to pay tribute to the incredible engine’s legacy.

The first Ghibli to feature a V-8 engine.

The Maserati Ghibli debuted shortly after the Shah of Persia purchased the 5000 GT. The Tipo AM 115 V-8, at 4.7 litres, and the Tipo AM 115/49 V-8, at 4.9 litres, were the two most prevalent V-8 engines. Each of these motors was mated to a five-speed manual gearbox. However, a three-speed option was available for purchase if you were set on having an automatic transmission. The 1969 Ghibli SS was Maserati’s fastest production road car. Its 4.9-liter engine produced 330 horsepower and propelled the vehicle to a top speed of 174 miles per hour.

After 54 years and two more doors, the V-8 Maserati engine is nearly complete. In honour of the occasion, a one-of-a-kind Ghibli, the 334 Ultima, is being produced. Maserati claims its 3.8-liter twin-turbo V-8, making 572 horsepower and 538 lb-ft of torque, is the fastest ICE-powered automobile in the world, capable of reaching speeds of up to 334 km/h (207.54 mph). The time it takes to accelerate from 62 miles per hour to zero is also reduced, from 4.3 seconds to 3.9. There’s a good chance you’re thinking, “Wait, this sounds like the same engine as what’s in the Trofeo models,” you wouldn’t be wrong. It’s not the strength of this Ghibli 334 Ultima that makes it so fast; instead, it’s the adage that “it’s lighter.”

This one-of-a-kind Ghibli has a carbon fibre exterior upgrade package. Its carbon fibre components include the spoiler, bumper plates, door handles, mirror caps, and B and C pillars. The 21-inch wide, matte black graphite Orione wheels are wrapped in a unique rubber compound and contain aerodynamic design elements that aid the 334 Ultima’s performance in windy conditions. Gloss black brake callipers and a “334” sign painted on the front fenders complement the Scia di Persia painting with Rubino accents found on the exterior.

The interior of the 5000 GT will be decorated with tributes fit for the Shah of Persia. The chairs’ seats and backs are upholstered in terracotta leather, while the “cannelloni” in the centre are upholstered in black Alcantara. The front headrests are embroidered with the Maserati trident and the 334 logo. The Center console’s carbon trim features a “334” logo and the phrase “una di 103,” which translates to “one of 103.”

The ULTIMATE LV8

It was already stated that the Ghibli would not be the only V-8-powered Maserati on display. “Maserati of SUVs” contributes to the end of an era with the Levante V8 Ultima. The F154 AM’s 3.8-liter twin-turbo V-8 engine will power it, which is good for 572 hp and 538 lb-ft of torque. Carbon fibre reduces weight, while Pale Terracotta leather chairs with a “una di 103” emblem are used. However, you can choose from two different colours: black (Nero Assoluto) or blue (Blu Royale). The front fenders are painted with the words “V-8 Ultima” in ruby red. Orione wheels are included as well. Additionally, it rides on glossy black 22-inch Orione wheels.

The Ghibli 334 Ultima and the Levante V-8 Ultima participated in the Goodwood hill climb and were displayed at the First Glance Paddock as part of the Goodwood Festival of Speed. No word on pricing or availability just yet, but don’t hold your breath waiting for it to be “cheap,” “affordable,” or “reasonable.”
