• The GT XX is a new concept car from Mercedes-AMG. It shows what a new electric speed model will look like and is expected to go into production the following year.
  • The engine features three motors that work in tandem to produce 1341 horsepower. According to Mercedes, the top speed is 223 mph.
  • The Porsche Taycan and other high-end electric cars are in the same market as this fast SUV.

Mercedes’ current phase of electric vehicles is shown by its blob-shaped lineup of EQ-badged cars, but the next phase is more interesting. The AMG GT XX concept car is a groundbreaking idea that previews what the brand’s next electric performance flagship will look like. The new AMG is likely to show this car off next year. The EA architecture is ready for production at this time. It offers a lot of power and lightning-fast charging speeds.

With 1341 Horsepower, The Mercedes-AMG GT XX EV Goes Up Against The Porsche Taycan

The GT XX is often regarded as a replacement for the AMG GT 4-Door Coupe, as it is roughly the same size and features a low-slung fastback design. The GT XX looks mean. Its grille is shaped like the grille on a Maserati, and the rear end is sharply tapered, lacking any rear glass. Gorden Wagener, Mercedes’ head of design, says that the six-round taillights are meant to resemble the four exhaust tips on AMG gas cars.

The all-wheel-drive system in the AMG GT XX comprises three electric motors: two located at the rear and one at the front. These motors have a power-dense axial-flux design instead of the more common radial-flux design found in most EVs. It has 1341 horsepower, which is more than the 1019-hp Turbo GT, which is the most powerful Porsche Taycan. AMG claims the top speed will be 223 mph but has not disclosed the acceleration from 0 to 60 mph.

The AMG powers this car. EA platform, which also adds new battery technology to the Mercedes lineup with its 800-volt electrical design. It’s not yet clear how much power the battery can hold, but AMG points out that the pack’s battery cells are tall and thin, and they claim that the new cooling method ensures very steady performance.

Mercedes is also making big claims about how fast the EV XX can be charged. The study says that the car can add 248 miles to its range in five minutes while being charged at an average of 850 kilowatts. Of course, this will rely on the charging equipment since, to charge this quickly, you need a DC fast charger that can handle this much power. Mercedes and the European charging company Alpitronic have made a test charger that can do that. Soon, everyone will be able to buy it. The company stated that the 850-kW charge would be facilitated through a CCS port for European use. However, it was unclear how this would connect to the North American Charge Standard (NACS) port, which it has begun to use for its EVs in the US.

Compared to some modern EQ cars, where huge hyperscreens occupy most of the dashboard, the GT XX’s interior appears to take a different direction. With orange accents and a simple center console, the overall look is more driver-focused and straightforward, yet it still features two large screens inside. AMG says it will use eco-friendly materials, such as synthetic leather made from recycled rubber from GT3 race tires. The carbon-fiber seats and squared-off steering wheel are based on cockpits from race cars.

There’s a good chance that this 1341-hp model will be the most powerful one in the line, but AMG could change that in the future. Its major rival is the Porsche Taycan, but it will also have to deal with fast electric cars like the Audi e-tron GT and the Lucid Air Sapphire. It will also have a brother SUV built on the same platform.

The production version of this AMG EV will almost certainly be called a GT in some form, but the exact name has not been finalized yet. We estimate that the new car will cost around six figures when it goes on sale in 2026, based on AMG’s announcement.
