After the 5 Turbo, which became famous in rally racing in the 1980s, Renault made the 5 Turbo 3E, an electric hot hatchback that goes with it. The Turbo 3E builds on the foundation of the retro 5 E-Tech, featuring more pronounced bodywork and a livery inspired by motorsports. The car can go from 0 to 62 mph in less than 3.5 seconds, thanks to its two electric motors, which send 500 horsepower to the rear wheels. The Renault 5 E-Tech, an electric car for the European market that came out earlier this year, already had retro-styled looks. The blocky shape is a nod to the Renault 5, which was one of the brand’s best-selling cars in the 1970s and 1980s. In honor of the Renault 5 Turbo, which made its debut in rally racing in the 1980s, the French carmaker has released the powerful and stylish Renault 5 Turbo 3E. This car fully embraces the retro look. In the past few years, Renault has made some crazy concept cars, like the R17 restomod and the 5 Diamant. But this rear-wheel-drive pocket rocket is now ready to be made. Renault unveiled the Turbo 3E as a concept automobile in 2022. The business vehicle doesn’t have the concept’s huge rear wing, strange color scheme, or teddy bear in the cabin (yes, you read that right), but it still has a cool look. The yellow and black paint job on the Turbo 3E makes me think of Renault race cars from the 1980s. Renault also made a lot of changes to the way this special model looks. The back doors were taken off and replaced with rear bumpers that bulge out and trim that looks like the heavy air intake on the original 5 Turbo. The front is more straight off, with three thin vents, a bumper with LED fog lights, and headlights that are shaped like a rectangle. The front fender is also very strong. There is a big diffuser in the back, and there are two spoilers, one on top and the other coming out from between the fog lights. The Renault 5 Turbo 3E has two electric motors on the back that will make more than 500 horsepower. Renault says the Turbo 3E can go from 0 to 62 mph in 3.5 seconds, but they don’t give much other information. Even though Renault hasn’t said how many Turbo 3Es it plans to make, there will likely be a limit, and the price will be a lot higher than the $27,000 price tag for the regular 5 E-Tech.
