• The brand’s V-8 muscle cars will be replaced by the 1025-hp 2023 Dodge Challenger SRT Demon 170, which can be driven on the street.
  • Dodge says a car with the required four-digit Horsepower and a top speed of 151 mph can do a quarter-mile in 8.91 seconds on a smooth surface.
  • The Demon 170 will go into production in July at a price of $100,361, but only 2,500 to 3,000 units will be sold in the United States by the end of the year. There will be no more V-8 Hellcats produced after that date.

Ricky Bobby’s father said, “If you ain’t first, you’re last,” but Dodge doesn’t believe it.

Throughout its more than 100-year history, the famous muscle car company has chased after taillights. The first 1970 Dodge Challenger came out shortly after the 1964.5 Ford Mustang, and the 1967 Chevy Camaro started the “pony car” craze. Compared to those two, the Challenger was made for a shorter amount of time. From 1978 to 1983, the second car was a Mitsubishi Galant with a Mopar nameplate put on it.

The History of Hellraiser’s

Dodge’s devious scheme began with the release of the 2015 Challenger SRT Hellcat. It quickly beat out its strongest crosstown competitors, the 580 horsepower Camaro ZL1 and the 662 horsepower Mustang Shelby GT500, with a supercharged 6.2-liter V-8 that got a lot of attention.

When it was in our hands, the blown-up Challenger went from 0 to 60 mph in 3.6 seconds and travelled 1320 feet at 126 mph in 11.6 ticks. Its Horsepower was close to that of a hyperarc, and prices started at around $60,000. All Challengers got a full update when it came out, which included changes to the inside and outside, as well as new engines and powertrains. The Hellcat, in particular, made it possible for SRT to make crazier cars.

The 2018 Demon came next. It was made especially for drag racing, and only 3300 copies could be made in one year. It cost around $86,000, had a warranty, and was street-legal. When the upgraded Hellcat V-8 was running on 100-octane race fuel, it could make 840 horsepower and do a wheelie. Dodge said a quarter-mile could be done in 9.65 seconds at 140 miles per hour on a perfectly smooth surface. So, the NHRA was made illegal, which Dodge announced with great joy.

1-0-2-5 Horsepower

If the top speed of the Hellcat V-8 weren’t over 100 mph, it would have been a letdown for the company that changed how muscle cars work. Dodge doesn’t specialize in weak power figures, which is good. It brought back the Demon name for the big finale and made the best dragster to be driven on the street.

The Challenger SRT Demon 170 will debut in 2023. It has an incredible 1025 horsepower and 945 pound-feet of torque from its 6.2-liter supercharged V-8. The name of the new Demon comes from the fact that it needs a mixture of E85 gasoline and 170-proof ethanol to reach its full power. The new engine can make 900 horsepower and 810 pound-feet of torque even with 91 octane fuel.

In terms of hardware, only

A few weeks ago, Tim Konicki’s, the CEO of Dodge, told a group of auto journalists that while working on the Demon 170, several engines had to be thrown away. This meant that the reveal date had to be moved back, and Kuniskis had to spend even more money than they had planned. His words support that the team did much more than change the old Demon V-8.

Even though it has the same iron block with a 376-cubic-inch displacement, the mill in the 170 has new insides. The mechanical components of the artificial V-8, including the crank, connecting rods, primary bearings, and rod bearings, are sturdy.

A Million Dollars’ Big Finish

For the new Demon, there are still choices. Two-piece aluminum and carbon fiber wheels are the most expensive upgrade you can get. Each one costs $11,495. When Dodge took the old Demon’s front fender flares off, all 170s lost 16 pounds. According to reports, the new car weighs 4275 pounds, so the two vehicles weigh about the same.

When it goes on sale this spring, the base price of a 2023 Demon 170 will be $100,361.This will likely lead to complaints about dealer markups, which are almost certain to happen. The number of items that will be made is still being determined. Dodge hopes to make up to 3000 copies for the U.S.

Dodge will halt production of the Hellcat V-8 on December 31. For the company, this marks the beginning of a new era. It’s hard to say goodbye, but getting to know you has been fun.
