2023 Dodge Ram 2500 Overview

What’s New?

  • With the release of the new Rebel trim
  • Different ways to pull a trailer
  • Modern digital instruments
  • In 2019, the fifth generation of Ram 2500 trucks hit the market.

Rebel is a new feature with the 2023 Ram 2500 Heavy Duty. Most of the Power Wagon’s features are still there, but it’s set up to get the optional Cummins turbo diesel engine, which isn’t available on the Power Wagon.

In other news, Ram has improved the ability of the 2500 Heavy Duty to pull trailers. Depending on how it’s made, the vehicle can tow a trailer that weighs up to 20,000 pounds when set up right and carry a payload of up to 4,010 pounds. Still, new trailer tow camera views and trailer mirrors can now be powered to move. Now that there is a new Trailer Reverse Steering Control system, it is easier to steer a trailer while backing up. You can now get a digital instrument display that is 12.3 inches on the Ram 2500.

Now that these upgrades are available, the Ram 2500 can compete with a newly remodeled 2023 Ford F-250 Super Duty. Soon, the Ram will go up against the redesigned Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD and GMC Sierra 2500HD for 2024.

Pros

  • It has a diesel engine with a lot of power and torque.
  • Inside with the latest technology
  • Even though it was a big, rough car, it was quiet and comfortable.
  • Both the Rebel and Power Wagon classes do a great job off-road.

Cons

  • The diesel engine, which can be added, makes a lot of noise.
  • Some people may be uncomfortable with how high the seat is.

How do you move 2500? The Ram 2500 goes fast, turns well, and stops well for being such a big vehicle. Acceleration at full speed is average but good. At the InvoicePricing test track, our 4WD test truck took 8.3 seconds from 0 to 60 mph. A heavy-duty vehicle has an average stopping distance of 140 feet. Thus simulating a panic stop from 60 miles per hour took that long.

Even though the handling limits are small, the steering feels light enough when turning. If you don’t think about how big the 2500 is, it drives well in the city. Most heavy-duty trucks can’t go off-road as well as the Power Wagon type can.

What kind of comfort does 2500 have? Both of the Ram 2500’s front and back seats are very comfortable. The chairs have a lot of padding and support, and you can change how they look. The elbows and hands don’t hurt as much when the surface is soft. As well as, 2500 can go on the highway. The ride is rough but pretty.

There are buttons and a touchscreen for climate control, but it sometimes needs to be clarified what the touchscreen does. Even though diesel engines aren’t uncommon in this class, the optional diesel powertrain makes a lot of noise and shakes the pedals and steering wheel. It also makes a constant drone when driving on the highway.

How does the inside look? The interior of every Ram 2500, from the base Tradesman to the top-of-the-line Limited, is comfortable. There is enough room for everyone, no matter where they sit, and the controls and buttons inside are well-organized and easy to use. Power-deployable side steps and wide doorways on all four sides make it easy to get in and out. Some drivers might think the driving position needs to be lowered, which is the only slight drawback.

How good is the tech? Mercedes and Audi’s high-end systems are much more expensive than the 12.3-inch touchscreen at the top of the Ram. The information on the bright, clear screen is set up in a way that is easy to understand. Still, we like the fact that the 8.4-inch touchscreen costs less. Both make it easy to use your paired smartphone and let you give commands with your voice.

There are many USB outlets, and the smartphone interfaces for both Apple CarPlay and Android Auto function faultlessly. If you are looking for a luxury stereo system with superb sound quality and are ready to spend extra money, a system with 17 speakers is ideal. Helpful driver assistance systems, like blind-spot warning and adaptive cruise control, don’t get in the way.

How are storage and hauling coming along? As expected, the Ram 2500 can pull a lot of weight and haul a lot of stuff. The kneeling feature of the optional rear air suspension makes it easier to load and hook up a trailer. Even though the Ram has a lot of competitors, its maximum payload and towing capacities make it stand out.

The center console of the Ram 2500 has a large storage box, and the back half of the cab has a lot of space for cargo. The vast back seat can easily fit three child seats if you’re traveling with kids. The seat anchors are also easy to get to.

How well does it use gasoline? The EPA does not rate how well heavy-duty trucks use fuel. Depending on the road and how well we drove, the diesel engine in our test vehicle got between 15 and 20 mpg, which is excellent for a truck this size and power.

Does the 2500’s price make sense? Ram is raising the bar with great controls and high-quality materials matching the price tag. The body panels and extra parts, like the bed cover, are well together. Chevy and Ford, the two main trucks competing with the Ram 2500, offer the same warranty coverage.

Regarding price, there are almost too many choices in this class. A Ford or Chevy can also cost more than $70,000, as can a Ram 2500. You should be fine if you don’t choose too much.

The Ram 2500 is a massive truck with a lot of character. It may be one of the most fashionable vehicles of its kind, yet just seeing it go past might give you the chills. But like other heavy-duty cars, it’s not a lot of fun to go every day, especially if you don’t travel on big country roads.

Even though we’re excited about the new Ram 2500 Rebel coming out in 2023, our top choice is still the 2500 Big Horn. The Big Horn has the most configurations and equipment options. You can stick to a strict budget or spend more to customize the vehicle with more comfort, capability, and technology features.
