Our Opinion - 2025 BMW 3-Series Review

Has anyone brought up icons? A lot of people have chosen the BMW 3-series as their first luxury sports car, and for good reason. The 2025 3-series, which is known for being sporty, always provides a great mix of style and speed. Whether you’re bombing back roads or running chores, driving is fun. The updated M340i has a 382-horsepower turbocharged inline-six engine instead of the 255-horsepower turbocharged inline-six motor found in the base 330i models. Both have 48-volt hybrid systems and can be ordered with either rear- or all-wheel drive. The BMW 3-series is packed full of great technology, like an augmented reality navigation system that can be added as an option, a wall of multimedia screens and gauges on the dashboard, and all of the usual driver assistance features. BMW’s higher price is fair because even well-equipped 3-series cars are not totally out of reach for drivers who want great handling. Some competitors, like the equally great Genesis G70, offer more functions at a lower cost.

BMW has updated the 3-series sports sedan’s iDrive 8.5 infotainment system for 2025, adding more color choices, better wheel designs, a redesigned steering wheel, and changes to the dashboard. The 330i and M340i models are still being made, but the 330e plug-in hybrid has been removed from the market. Changes to the suspension are meant to make it easier to drive and more comfortable. In Comfort mode, you have to work less to turn.

Pros

  • It’s a great mix between being sporty and being fancy.
  • Better entertainment on the big screen.
  • A wide range of attractive engine choices.

Cons

  • A desired driving aid technician is an added benefit.
  • M Sport cars are known for having rough rides.
  • A new one might be on the way soon.

The 3-series has two gas engines that are both strong and fast. The 330i’s 2.0-liter four-cylinder turbocharged engine makes 255 horsepower and 295 pound-feet of torque, but it looks like it has more power. When paired with a 48-volt hybrid system, the M340i’s 3.0-liter inline-six turbocharged engine makes 382 horsepower and 369 pound-feet of torque. There is an eight-speed automatic transmission that is included with each engine. This transmission is incredibly smooth and easy to use. Rear-wheel drive is standard. No matter how much money you have, you can’t buy a manual drive. A charge is required to motorize all four wheels of the vehicle. People who buy the three can pick from three different suspension setups: the standard setup, the sportier M Sport setting, or the Dynamic Handling option, which has dampers that can be adjusted. In comparison to other comparable sports vehicles, the four-cylinder Bimmer performed better in a test. We liked how it could go from looking sleek and calm to funny and lively. In a head-to-head comparison with the stunning Alfa Romeo Giulia, the 330i came out on top, demonstrating its superiority. Our long-term M340i, with its strong six-cylinder engine and great body control, showed that the brand was back to its old self.

Simple driver aids, such as autonomous emergency braking and front collision warning, are all that BMW has to offer. Other aspects, though, can be put to use. One example is the parking help package, which will park your car for you. Those interested in learning more about the findings of the 3-series crash tests can visit the websites of the IIHS and the NHTSA, respectively. Some important safety factors are:

  • Normal automatic stopping in an emergency.
  • Also included are lane departure and lane maintaining indicators.
  • You can get adaptive speed control that can center your car in its lane.

The inside of the 3-series is modernly built and made with high-quality materials and parts. The buttons on the 3-series are in the right place, and nothing about it looks like it might break. There are many ways to change the basic sports chairs; they are supportive and have good back support, and they make it easy to find a comfortable position. This vehicle comes with a plethora of optional features, such as a full head-up display, wireless charging, heated front and rear seats, adjustable ambient interior lighting, and remote start. The 3-series offers a spacious trunk and, as an option, a power-operated deck lid. The gas-powered sedan has a 17-cubic-foot trunk that can hold six carry-on bags or 17 bags altogether when the back row is folded down. On the other hand, the Alfa Romeo Giulia’s trunk could hold five bags normally and fifteen when the back seats were folded down.

Fuel economy for the 330i with the four-cylinder engine may reach up to 25 city mpg and 34 highway mpg, according to the EPA. With 23 mpg in the city and 31 mpg on the highway, the M340i, with its more powerful six-cylinder engine, gets the best gas economy. A rear-drive 330i achieved 42 mpg on our 75-mph highway fuel economy route in one of our many tests. A 33-mpg M340i with all-wheel drive was also tested.

The 12.3-inch gauge display and the 14.9-inch touchscreen display are joined together to make a single screen that fits nicely on top of the dashboard of the 3-series. Even in direct sunlight, the high-resolution screens provide crisp, clear images. BMW’s iDrive 8.5 is quick and easy to put together and use. It comes with a lot of features, like Apple CarPlay and Android Auto that work wirelessly, mapping built into the dashboard, a 5G Wi-Fi hotspot, and SiriusXM satellite radio. You can choose to have a head-up monitor, which can show augmented reality navigation directions. You may use the built-in Harman/Kardon music system and the wireless smartphone charging station.

On our test track, the M340i xDrive with all-wheel drive went from 0 to 60 mph in 3.7 seconds. The 330i we tried, on the other hand, was just a little behind. It had xDrive all-wheel drive and could go from 0 to 60 mph in 5.2 seconds.

The four-cylinder, turbocharged 330i is our top pick. It’s surprisingly powerful and feels very quick. The M Sport package comes with extra features, unique style elements, and a specially tuned suspension, which we would add to our car. The Premium package has a head-up display, hands-free passive entry, heated steering wheels, and other features that make it a good choice. We would also pick the Dynamic Handling option. It makes the car easier to drive by adding better brakes and adjustable dampers, making it more like the famous 3-series sedans from the past.
