Our Opinion - 2025 Chevrolet Tahoe Review

The 2025 Chevrolet Tahoe is a monster full-size SUV that is built on a truck. It has a lot of space for people and things, and it can pull a lot. The Tahoe is a great car to tow because it has a strong truck-based frame and strong engines (two V-8 options and a diesel inline-six). There is a model called Z71 that can handle off-road tracks perfectly. The Tahoe has three rows of seats that can fit eight people, and the inside can be made to look fancy or very practical. However, none of its trim levels are as nice as the Cadillac Escalade or the GMC Yukon Denali, which are its mechanical brothers. A big tablet that is slightly tilted toward the driver takes up most of the dashboard. The Android Auto and Apple CarPlay operating systems are both compatible with it. SUVs like the Ford Expedition, Jeep Wagoneer, and Nissan Armada offer similar packages, but we think that some drivers will enjoy the Chevy’s better road smoothness more. The Tahoe’s long-wheelbase sister ship, the Suburban, is also ready to take even more cargo in case the Tahoe is too small.

In 2025, the Tahoe will get a small visual change as well as a new dashboard with an 11.0-inch digital instrument cluster and a 17.7-inch infotainment touchscreen. The Chevy’s V-8 engine choices are the same as last year, but the diesel inline-six now has 38 more horsepower and 35 more pound-feet of torque, for a total of 305 horsepower. Tow aids have been improved with many more features to help drivers. One of these features checks the state of the trailer’s tires. Chevy says that air springs are now available on the RST trim level as well, not just the Z71 and High Country models. They have also changed the Tahoe’s suspension to make it more comfortable. There are now more wheel choices across the board, including some 24-inch wheels that are the biggest ever put on a Tahoe.

Pros

  • Terrible outward design.
  • Better diesel power plant.
  • Third row with lots of space.

Cons

  • Hopefully, elements for interior design have gotten better.
  • It won’t blow you away with how well it uses gas.
  • Has many of the same traits as earlier.

Most Tahoes have a V-8 engine that is either 5.3 or 6.2 liters and has 355 or 420 horsepower and a 10-speed automatic transmission. Most cars come with rear-wheel drive as normal, but most can also have all-wheel drive. A 3.0-liter inline-six diesel engine with 305 horsepower and 495 pound-feet of torque is available as an option. Different levels of the diesel all have the same 10-speed automatic gear. For off-road use, the Tahoe Z71 has 20-inch wheels with all-terrain tires, support for the undercarriage, and a two-speed transfer case for standard four-wheel drive. During our tests, we saw that the 5.3-liter V-8 Tahoe Z71 before the update had good acceleration, a strong brake pedal, and a very quiet cabin at highway speeds. The Z71 has an air spring suspension system that lets the driver change the Tahoe’s ride height, which is helpful for getting over objects off-road. You can choose not to have this suspension on both the RST and High Country models. When we get a chance to test drive the 2025 Tahoe, we’ll let you know what we think of it and what the test results are.

There are a lot of current features that come standard on the Tahoe that help the driver, like automatic high beams and lane-keeping assist. Chevy has added a lot of helpful features for towing, like a feature that helps you get on and off of boats, a system that checks the tires on your trailer, and a mapping system that can figure out the best routes based on the size of your trailer. GM’s Super Cruise technology lets you drive without using your hands in the LT, RST, Premier, and High Country trims. Visit the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) and National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) webpages to learn more about the Tahoe’s crash test scores. Some important safety factors are:

  • Standard automated emergency stopping that distinguishes motorcycles from pedestrians.
  • Regular lane guidance and warnings as you exit.
  • You can get adaptive speed control with a hands-free mode.

The full-size Tahoe has a huge interior with almost infinite room, unlike smaller mid-size SUVs. Standard seating has three rows, and the chairs in the second row can be moved forward and backward to give people more options and a more comfortable way to sit back. The middle desk is big enough to hold a lot of things, like drinks, wallets, keys, and smartphones. Behind the middle armrest, there is a large storage area that can fit a small bag or purse. The mid-range and higher trim levels of the LS come with more desired extras, like a motorized rear liftgate, second-row captain’s chairs, a power-adjustable steering column, and more. The entry-level models, on the other hand, have fewer luxury features. The highest-end High Country has real wood trim, split leather seats, and a variety of unique interior color options.Internal load floor is low and flat in Tahoe due to independent rear suspension. The cargo area can grow to 123 cubic feet when the second and third seats are pulled down. Under the third row, there was room for six carry-on bags.

The EPA hasn’t released its fuel economy numbers for the 2025 Tahoe yet, but they will be about the same as those for the previous generation. In 2024, the diesel Tahoe got 21 mpg in the city and 28 mpg on the highway, making it the most fuel-efficient car. On the highway, both the optional 6.2-liter V-8 and the standard 5.3-liter V-8 scored up to 20 mpg. However, in the city, the standard V-8 was more fuel-efficient. The last time we tried a Tahoe with a diesel engine, it got 27 mpg on our 75-mph highway route in 2021.

Everything in the Tahoe comes with a 17.7-inch tablet for entertainment and communication that is slightly tilted toward the driver to make it easier to use the phone, radio, and navigation. It also has a wireless charging pad for smartphones, a Wi-Fi hotspot, and support for both Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. Along with the infotainment tablet, the Tahoe has an 11.0-inch digital instrument cluster. Extras like a Bose sound system and a theater system with two screens behind the front seats can be added as options.

The Tahoe can pull up to 8,400 pounds, which is almost as much as some full-size pickup trucks. It has room for eight people. This means that the Tahoe needs to have a 5.3-liter V-8 engine and rear-wheel drive. If you choose the 6.2-liter V-8 engine, the Tahoe can only pull up to 8300 pounds. If you choose the diesel engine, it can pull up to 8200 pounds.

The most affordable models, the RST and Z71, are the best deals. The RST is fancier, while the Z71 is better for daring drivers who like to go off-road sometimes. We like the Z71’s unique off-road features, tough build, and regular four-wheel drive. We would also choose the extra 6.2-liter V-8 engine because it has 65 more horsepower than the standard 5.3-liter V-8.
