Our Opinion - 2025 Chevrolet Trax Review

Instead, the Chevy Trax’s starting price is very low, which is one of its main selling points since calling something cheap would be rude. This subcompact SUV is one of the most affordable new cars on the market. It has a high-value factor and lots of substance thanks to its roomy interior and great driving experience, which both make the sticker price seem low. It doesn’t have as much power as some of its more expensive competitors—it only has front-wheel drive and a three-cylinder engine that makes 137 horsepower—but it makes up for it with a lot of useful standard features and a nice look on the outside and inside. It’s still a good buy for anyone wanting a new car that works well, isn’t too expensive, and looks great. That’s why we put it on our list of the ten best trucks and SUVs from last year and gave it our Editor’s Choice award.

The Trax’s exterior now has two new colors: Marina Blue Metallic and Cypress Gray. Its engine can now run on E85 fuel.

Pros

  • Less than $30,000 for a whole house.
  • It’s a good plan with lots of care put into the details.
  • Think about the price; it drives well.

Cons

  • Though it might be better, the fuel efficiency is good.
  • In reality, it’s not nearly as thrilling as it appears.
  • A real SUV, right?

The Trax has a front-wheel drive, a 1.2-liter inline-three turbocharged engine with 137 horsepower, and a six-speed automatic gearbox. It does not even come with all-wheel drive. You won’t feel sluggish going around town in the Trax because it slows down quickly, but you’ll notice that it lacks power when you merge or pass on the freeway. We do, however, like its traditional six-speed automatic transmission better than the continuously variable transmissions (CVTs) found in many of its rivals. This is because it changes gears more smoothly and doesn’t make as much noise as competitors with CVTs, like the Subaru Crosstrek and Honda HR-V. The Trax feels more agile than many of its rivals and drives like a car. Since its main purpose is to move people, the brake pedal feels reassuringly firm, and the steering is reliable and easy to use.

Chevy Safety Assist is a set of tools that help the driver, and it comes standard on all Trax cars. Check out the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) and National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) webpages to learn more about the Trax’s crash test scores. Some important safety factors are:

  • Most automatic emergency brakes detect road users.
  • Regular lane guidance and warnings as you exit.
  • You can get adaptive speed control.

The Trax’s interior is nice. It’s easy to use, and there’s plenty of room for both drivers and guests. Its climate controls and entertainment screen that faces the driver are well organized. The rest of the inside is made of standard materials for a car in this price range. The Trax has a longer wheelbase than the last model, which makes the back seat more roomy for people and things. We think this is a good thing because it makes it look more like a car and puts the driver lower. Many new features, like a sunroof, heated front seats and steering wheel, and remote start, make the cabin stand out, though they vary by model.

The EPA says that the 2025 Chevy Trax will get 32 mpg on the highway and 28 mpg in the city. These are the same as the non-turbo Mazda CX-30, though the CX-30 has all-wheel drive, and the Trax only has front-wheel drive. The Hyundai Kona, on the other hand, gets worse gas mileage in the city than the Trax. The Trax got 30 mpg on our highway route that tests gas mileage at 75 mph.

The Chevy Trax LS and 1RS versions have an 8.0-inch touchscreen for entertainment, which is bigger than the biggest screen on the most expensive model from the last generation. Models LT and up have an 8.0-inch digital gauge panel and an 11.0-inch touchscreen for entertainment. There is also a Wi-Fi hotspot, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto that work wirelessly, and a wireless phone charger.

In our tests, the Trax took 8.8 seconds to reach 60 mph. This is longer than some competitors but still good considering the small SUV market’s possibly less strict performance standards.

The Chevy Trax is reasonably priced and has some interesting features. The LT has the right amount of functions for the price. Even though the LT comes with a big 11.0-inch infotainment screen and remote start, we would pay more for the extra heated front seats and steering wheel. On LT and higher models, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are also built in wirelessly. These apps let you use your phone to navigate and play music.
