2025 Chevrolet Colorado Overview

What’s new:

  • By 2025, there will be no big changes.
  • Part of the third version of the Colorado that will come out in 2023.

One of the best midsize trucks on the market right now is the 2025 Chevrolet Colorado. As you might expect from a Chevrolet pickup, Colorado comes in a variety of trim levels and option packages that can turn the truck into anything from an off-road warrior to a daily parts hauler. The Colorado also has some of the best towing and carrying abilities in its class. You might be surprised by how smooth the Colorado ride is and how easy it is to use its tech features on days when hauling rocks is less important than running errands.

A lot of people who buy full-size cars only look at the numbers. Strong drivetrains, large cargo capacities, and unmatched towing capacities can easily convince buyers to buy a bigger vehicle “just in case.” Such buyers may never need any of these features. The Colorado, on the other hand, can still carry and pull a very large load. A 2.7-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine might not seem like a good choice for a truck. The Colorado has an engine that makes 310 horsepower and 430 pound-feet of torque when it is fully charged. When using the Colorado, you can pull up to 7,700 pounds. That’s more than enough to pull a trailer with desert toys and a truck full of friends and their stuff.

After years of slow sales, owners of midsize trucks are now faced with a huge number of new models. New improvements have been made to the Ford Ranger, the Toyota Tacoma, and the Colorado. There’s no need to present the Tacoma because it has been the standard midsize truck for many years. It is so useful and has a high resale value. The new Ranger is a much better car because its cabin has been improved, and its ride is smoother. The large Honda Ridgeline and the off-road-focused Jeep Gladiator are two other options.

Pros

  • Better engine choices allow for strong towing and quick acceleration.
  • How smooth the ride is in a pickup.
  • Integration of a useful Google-based entertainment system.
  • The ZR2 model is very strong.

Cons

  • The base engine has little power and sounds rough.
  • There are only so many comfortable back seats.

How do people in Colorado drive? Traditional body-on-frame trucks, like the Colorado, have come a long way in terms of how well they handle and drive. The 2.7-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine speeds up quickly and makes a lot of low-end power, which is great for both driving in cities and pulling heavy things. The brakes are easy to adjust for smooth stops, and they have enough stopping power for emergency stops. The process of shifting gears is simple and easy to do.

The test truck with the Z71 trim didn’t act up. Still, it was fun and safe to drive in the dirt. The Trail Boss and ZR2 models are great for people who are ready to give up some comfort on the road in exchange for a lot more off-road capability.

How comfortable is it in Colorado? The Colorado is a surprisingly comfy truck. It doesn’t seem too stiff when it’s empty, and it works well to reduce road humpbacks. It’s also very quiet inside. Most of the time, trucks with big off-road tires let road noise into the cabin. But compared to other medium pickup trucks, our Colorado Z71 was very quiet. When you’re going on the highway, you can hear wind noise from the window and front pillar the most.

We would have also liked more comfy chairs. The cushions are too stiff and flat for long trips, and they don’t offer enough side or back support. Because they are strong fans, the temperature controls are easy to read and use even when gloves are on.

How is the state of the inside? The inside of Colorado was carefully planned. Most of the knobs and buttons for controlling things are big and easy to see at a look. Chevy put a lot of time and care into the inside of this car. There’s a lot of tough plastic around, but it should last for years.

We don’t like that the headlight control is now on the touchscreen instead of a useless physical switch, but Chevy probably thought that most people would leave the headlights on automatically and never touch them. There are no big blind spots like on a truck, which is good, and the view is good. Taller people in the back may have trouble finding enough knee room, but the front of the car looks open and roomy.

What’s wrong with the tech? When it comes to technology, the Colorado is the best car in this class. The instrument panel can be set up to show different points of view, and the screens are bright and easy to read. With Google’s Android software, the Chevy’s entertainment system works better. It can connect wirelessly to Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, recognize speech smartly and easily, and has Alexa for Amazon users.

Many other driver aids are offered, such as adaptive cruise control with lane centering, lane keeping assist, and blind spot warning. A 360-degree camera system could also make parking and moving around on narrow off-road paths easy.

How do you store things and tow things? Colorado’s storage could be better. The room behind the back bench is great, but it doesn’t have any storage (even though it’s split 60/40), and the door pockets are too small to be useful. The main panel, on the other hand, is deep, and it’s great that there’s a wall between the two levels. We really like how the cupholders have little phone slots built in.

The Colorado is great at pulling things behind it. When fully equipped, it can pull up to 7,700 pounds, the most in its class. It also comes with an optional tow package that checks for problems and keeps track of your trailer’s miles. It can carry up to 1,685 pounds, which is more than most medium trucks can. It also has a 240-volt household outlet in the bed for powering small items around the house and a handy storage compartment in the tailgate.

How much fuel does it use? In towns and on the highway, the Colorado should get between 16 and 22 mpg, depending on how it is configured. We drove a Z71 model that got about 20 mpg and had 4WD. With a combined fuel economy of 21.5 mpg, the Colorado slightly beat the EPA’s prediction on our real-world test route. As with other trucks in this class, you should be able to meet the EPA’s estimates every time you drive the new Colorado.

Is the Colorado a reasonable car? The Colorado’s cabin is well put together. It’s clear that Chevy spent a lot of time, money, and effort on the materials, fit, and finish. The Colorado’s higher trim levels can be pricey, but we think you’re getting a good deal for the truck’s features and abilities.

Colorado’s warranty is about the same as that of other midsize cars. The base warranty lasts for three years and 36,000 miles, and the guarantee on the drivetrain lasts for five years and 60,000 miles. It covers rust for 100,000 miles, which is six years. Chevy also offers free maintenance for one year and roadside help for five years or 60,000 miles.

The most up-to-date style of the Colorado looks nice and tough. As you drive, the Colorado feels like a friend; it’s like having a buddy that you look forward to seeing every day. Also, it’s simple to get around and live with, even on busy city streets. Another thing to note is that our test car got more praise in a week than Porsches and high-end BMWs usually do. The new Colorado is clearly a hit with customers.

As of this writing, Chevrolet has yet to make a public announcement about the 2025 Colorado. If anything changes, we’ll let you know, but based on last year’s car, we think the less expensive LT trim is the best choice.

Different kinds of Chevrolet Colorado

There is only one trim level for the medium Chevrolet Colorado truck. It is the crew cab model with four doors and a five-foot-long bed. It comes in five trims: LT, Trail Boss, Z71, and WT (Work Truck). The Colorado has a 2.7-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine with two different power levels. The base type, called Turbo, comes standard with the WT and LT. It has 237 hp and 260 lb-ft of torque. The Trail Boss, Z71, and ZR2 all come with the most powerful TurboMax engine (310 hp and 430 lb-ft), but the WT and LT can choose a different engine. There is only an automatic drive with eight speeds.
