It has been confirmed that Toyota‘s assembly plant in Kentucky is making two new three-row EV SUVs. Reuters says the SUVs will be electric versions of the Land Cruiser and RAV4. The Kentucky plant will have room for the new electric vehicles because the Lexus ES sedan will no longer be made in the US. Instead, it will be made in Japan. Toyota is making changes to its Georgetown, Kentucky, assembly plant so that it can make room for two new electric SUV models. The company hasn’t given out much official information about the upcoming three-row EV SUVs, but it did confirm to Invoice-Pricing that both would be built in Kentucky. Additionally, Toyota is making more of the Grand Highlander at its factory in Indiana. In a statement, the company explained that Toyota is reorganizing production at its Kentucky and Indiana facilities to enhance manufacturing efficiency and meet customer demand more effectively. Toyota Indiana will maintain Grand Highlander assembly at its west plant while also beginning production of the model at its east plant to support growing output needs. A new report from Reuters says that Toyota has failed to say anything about the details of its upcoming electric SUVs, which are said to be based on the Land Cruiser and RAV4. The news source says that this is what an unnamed person with knowledge of the situation says. There are also pictures of the Land Cruiser SE idea, which could be a sneak peek at the real thing. The picture above, which Toyota showed off earlier this year, suggests that the rumored RAV4 EV would fit in between an electric pickup truck and the CH-R EV, which just came out. The Lexus ES car is now made at Toyota’s plant in Kentucky. The company announced that the ES will be manufactured in Japan, starting in 2021, instead of in Kentucky. “This move will help make room for future products and better align with U.S. market demand,” the representative told Invoice-Pricing again today.
