Genesis Is Making A Lot Of Hybrids, A Full-Size SUV, And A New Off-Road Vehicle

Genesis has already showcased enough concept cars to warrant a whole new line of vehicles. The company’s more detailed account of its plans for future products, released today, states that many of these exciting ideas will become a reality. Hyundai’s CEO, José Muñoz, said that Genesis will start selling hybrid and extended-range electric cars (EREVs) in 2026.

The line-up will get two new SUVs: a full-size SUV with three rows of seats based on the Neolun concept and an off-road-focused car based on the X Gran Equator design.

The full-size SUV, which might be called the GV90, will use the same E-GMP EV platform as the Hyundai Ioniq 9 and the Kia EV9. However, we don’t know which platform these new cars will use. Even so, Genesis might be better off building these new cars on the new platform, which it says will be ready in 2028. The company states that this new platform will support extended-range electric cars (EREVs), hybrids, and battery-electric powertrains.

Even though Hyundai puts hybrid powertrains in most of its core cars, Genesis has never sold a hybrid model in the United States. This will be different in 2026, when the high-end brand starts making electric cars. The GV80 mid-size SUV and the GV70 compact SUV are both good choices, but the types that will have hybrid powertrains are still unknown.

Genesis also announced that it will soon start making extended-range electric vehicles (EREVs). EREVs are plug-in hybrid vehicles that have a range of more than 600 miles and a gasoline engine that works as a generator.

A “halo” form will be coming soon from Genesis. This is either a new grand touring performance car under the brand’s Magma subbrand or a convertible like the X Gran Coupe idea. With Genesis’ racing program, the Magma speed subbrand is expected to grow. The GV60 Magma, the first production vehicle, will be made later this year. More Magma models are in the works.
