Volkswagen Spain’s Cupra brand has released a new crossover with a unique engine. You can find the same turbo five-cylinder engine in both the Audi RS3 and the Cupra Formentor VZ5. Cupra has said in the past that they want to sell cars in the US, but we don’t think this type will be here. One of the best things about working for a global car company must be being able to put one of the few five-cylinder engines left into a normal crossover. We think that’s how Seat, the Spanish branch of the Volkswagen Group, will feel when the properly crazy Cupra Formentor VZ5 comes out for the 2026 model year. Cupra is a company owned by Seat that formerly manufactured high-performance hatchbacks and SUVs. The latest VZ5 features one of the best engines available for under $100,000 these days. The Cupra Formentor, on the other hand, is a small crossover that doesn’t have a straight Seat equivalent. The 2.5-liter inline-five turbocharged engine in this powerful car is sourced from the Audi RS3 and the Audi RS Q3 SUV, which were never sold in the US.
