Our Opinion - 2022 Mazda Cx-5 Review

A 2022 Mazda CX-5 is a best choice for drivers who prioritise performance over other compact crossovers. Improved suspension and transmission for the new model year are expected to make it even more enjoyable to drive. When it comes to Mazda’s lineup of crossovers, the CX-5 sits above the CX-30 but below the three-row CX-9.

  • All models come standard with all-wheel drive.
  • New six-speed automatic transmission with a number of improvements.
  • Noise and vibration are expected to be reduced with the new suspension.
  • Updates to the grille, lights, and wheels on the outside provide a more modern appearance.
  • Exterior and interior accents in black and red have been added to the 2.5 Turbo model, previously known as the Grand Touring Reserve.
  • Newly designed seats.
  • Mazda’s Intelligent Drive Select allows you to quickly switch between various driving modes with the push of a button.

 Pros:

  • Turbocharged powerhouse
  • Superiority in security

Cons:

  • Not as much room for cargo as rivals
  • No FWD available

The two 2.5-liter engines currently offered in the Mazda CX-5 are expected to remain. The non-turbo engine produced 187 hp & 186 lb-ft of engine power for the model year 2021. When trying to run on 93 octane fuel, the upgraded turbo produced 227 hp & 310 lb-ft of torque.

Mazda has improved the responsiveness of the six-speed automatic transmission that comes standard on most vehicles. AWD is now standard on all CX-5s going forward.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) tried to give the 2022 Mazda CX-5 a 5-star overall safety rating. For the front & side crash tests, this vehicle received four out of a possible five stars. The IIHS named a 2021 Mazda CX-5 a 2021 Top Defensive Pick+ after it received Good ratings across the board in all crash tests.

Fully automated emergency stop with detection and tracking, lane departure, lane departure assist, driver assistance, and tracking with rear bridge alert should all be standard on the 2022 Mazda CX-5.

The standard 10.3-inch news and entertainment screen with Android Auto Auto is expected to remain in the Mazda CX-5 in 2022. Some trims should come with a 10-speaker Headphone sound system as standard equipment.

The 2.5 Turbo Trademark trim may be of interest to buyers who are looking for a more luxurious experience. This model has a turbocharged engine and bright silver fully completed wheels in addition to the body colour exterior cladding. Genuine wood trim and Nappa leather upholstery decorate the interior.
