2025 Acura MDX Overview

What’s new:

  • Touchscreen-based infotainment systems have taken the place of trackpad controls.
  • Bang & Olufsen has made a new sound system.
  • Updated tools for helping people drive.
  • As part of the fourth generation of MDX that will come out in 2022.

The most current version of the Acura MDX came out in 2022, and since then, we’ve loved its roomy interior, great value, and fun drive. Acura has added a few more high-tech features to the 2025 MDX, which was already a great three-row luxury SUV. Most importantly, Acura didn’t make any more changes to the MDX, so it still runs well and has room for up to seven people.

One of the main problems with earlier versions of this fourth-generation MDX was the so-called True Touchpad Interface or TTI. It seemed like a good idea at first, but it was hard to use while driving because it worked differently when you connected your phone to the Acura interface or your phone. Luckily, Acura has taken it off for good and replaced it with a much easier touchscreen for the 2025 MDX. Not only is it a big step up from the last generation, but it also has one of the fastest touchscreens we’ve ever seen and an easy-to-use interface.

The Mercedes-Benz GLE, BMW X5, and Audi Q7 are all great luxury SUVs from Europe that have never been able to beat the MDX, which is now in its fourth generation. The new Lexus TX SUV with three rows of seats is an even better choice. Even so, the MDX is still a good option because it has a big price advantage over these other stocks.

What do they like to live with?

Invoice Pricings’ long-term test fleet included a 2022 Acura MDX SH-AWD Advance for at least a year. The most recent MDX impressed us with its comfort, usefulness, and roomy cabin. However, it didn’t have a touchscreen interface, but that has since been fixed. We also had trouble meeting the EPA’s fuel efficiency numbers.

Pros

  • More than enough space is available for individuals and their belongings.
  • It’s still quiet and comfortable, and it’s still fun to drive.
  • A lot of tools for the price.

Cons

  • For a high-end SUV, the stock engine doesn’t have enough speed.
  • Our tests done in person showed that it used a lot of gas.

How does the MDX get power? The MDX’s best dynamic features are its handling and driving. Acura’s latest version of its Super Handling All-Wheel Drive makes the MDX more agile and better at handling slippery surfaces. Even though it has a smooth ride, the MDX is as quick around corners as a half-sized SUV. Accurate and natural driving is fun, whether you’re making tight turns or long trips on the road.

In the base MDX, the V6 engine is less strong. It revs easily and has personality, but it loses its punch over time. The MDX Advance took 7.5 seconds to go from 0 to 60 mph on our test track, which was longer than the previous MDX and slower than almost every other luxury three-row midsize SUV we’ve looked at. The 10-speed automatic transmission and the quality of the shifts need to live up to our hopes. Luckily, the MDX Type S is more sporty because it has a turbocharged engine and a faster speed.

How does the MDX make you feel? The front seats of the MDX could be the most comfy in its class. They are very helpful and can be changed in many ways. The second-row seats can move and swivel, but they are less comfortable than the front seats. The suspension does a great job of reducing the force of most road bumps, making for a surprisingly comfortable ride.

It was easy to use the temperature control system, which kept us comfortable for several hours of travel. Still, there are no vents in the back cabin. The only ones there are in the second row, on the center panel, and there are none in the third row. The seat heaters work well, but the airflow in the seats could be better. Even though we didn’t think the cabin was noisy, the sound levels we recorded were higher than those of most other cars in the same class, especially at highway speeds and full throttle.

How is the state of the inside? The best thing about the new MDX is that Acura’s infotainment system no longer has a complicated touchpad interface. Instead, it has a simple tablet. The 12.3-inch screen may be too far away for shorter drivers, but now that that’s fixed, we can enjoy the system’s fast screen and quick responses even more.

The good news is that the inside has mostly stayed the same. The first and second rows of seats inside the car have plenty of space. The third row is mostly for kids, but adults can do it for short amounts of time. The second-row seat release system in an Acura is a simple push-button device that is easy to use. You can take out the middle seat in the second row to make a captain’s chair layout and a center pass-through that makes getting to the third row even easier.

Large windows all around make it easier to see, and the extra surround-view camera system makes it even easier to see from the bumper in every direction. It’s time to stop scraping a fender or shaping a wheel.

What’s wrong with the tech? Instead of the touchpad, a full tablet infotainment system can be added to make the MDX easier to use and give you better access to all of its technology. The built-in navigation system works well, and the big screen in the middle looks good, is easy to read, and responds to touch commands. The old 16-speaker ELS system has been replaced by a new 19-speaker Bang & Olufsen system in MDX Tech grades and up. We liked the ELS because it had great staging, almost no distortion at higher volumes, and great separation between the low, mid, and high ranges. This new B&O is at least as good as that one. Fans of sound who knew the last ELS wasn’t very good will also be happy with this system.

It has been updated, and some new features have been added to Acura’s driver-assist technology. For example, adaptive cruise control now slows down the car for turns. The driver assist suite is still great, even though the base MDX models don’t have the Type S’s touch-sensitive steering wheel or the more advanced new lane-changing assistance. This is especially true since it comes standard on all trim levels. In other ways, the technology is pretty good, and there are lots of USB ports in the cabin to keep everyone’s devices charged. Plus, there’s a charger that doesn’t need a cord.

What’s going on with storage? Two strong points are cargo room and storage capacity. Behind the third row of seats in the MDX, there is a little more room than most other midsize luxury crossovers with three rows (16.3 cubic feet). The second and third sets of seats can be folded flat, and there is more space under the cargo floor in the back. Behind the second row, there is the most room, at 71.4 cubic feet. This leaves 39.1 cubic feet open.

The MDX has big bins in the doors and a good-sized bin in the center armrest up front. However, the previous model’s removable section is no longer available. The middle seats have three sets of pins for car seats, so three child safety seats can be put across from each other.

For the right price, the all-wheel drive MDX can pull up to 5,000 pounds. While this is fine for a small trailer, keep in mind that some European SUVs, like the Audi Q7, can pull up to 7,000 pounds.

How much fuel does it use? The EPA says that the all-wheel-drive MDX we tried will get 21 mpg on the highway and in the city. While moving normally, it was hard to get the EPA rating to stay the same, even though this number is the same as that of other high-end SUVs.

Does the MDX have any value? Value is still a big reason for MDX’s existence. The open-pore wood accents and soft leather on the MDX take it to a whole new level of luxury. There are a lot of options that come with the MDX that you can’t get with other models, which is a good thing. The warranty support could be better. The basic and powertrain warranties are better than those of European competitors, but the roadside help isn’t as good.

We think the MDX looks great. It’s not a rocket engine, but it sounds ready to go. This makeover looks well thought out. The MDX is a lot of fun to drive because it is so easy to control.

Acura has changed the features that come with each price level, so the MDX Technology Package is the best choice. It offers all-wheel drive, better-driving assistance features, leather seats, a new touchscreen, and a Bang & Olufsen sound system. The A-Spec also has all-wheel drive and a few different changes to the outside.

Types of Acura MDX

The 2025 Acura MDX is a high-end large SUV with three rows of seats. It comes in five trim levels, and the fast Type S model is being looked at separately. The base MDX and Technology Package models have front-wheel drive, while the A-Spec, Advance Package, and A-Spec Advance models have all-wheel drive.
