2025 Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD Overview

What’s new:

  • There is a new off-road option called Trail Boss for the LT and LTZ trim levels.

The 2025 Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD is in the middle of the 1500 truck range, and the 3500HD has the most space. When it is built right, it can pull more than 22,000 pounds, which would be great for pulling a big trailer, which the 1500 would have a hard time with. The 2500HD also rides smoother and costs a little less than the 3500HD. We only expect small changes in 2025 since Chevrolet’s HD pickups got a new grille and cabin in 2024.

They will likely get a new Tlikely rail Boss trim kit. The Trail Boss won’t be able to go off-road, and neither will the ZR2. But it will have an off-road suspension, black 20-inch wheels with more extreme off-road tires, and the base 2500 will cost more. Keep an eye out for things like black bumpers and red rescue hooks that are on the outside. Besides that, the 2500 line will only get small changes to its features and packing.

The GMC Sierra 2500, which is mechanically the same as the Silverado, is one of the three kinds. It is important to find out if the Ford F-250 can pull and haul as much as the Silverado. Also, since Ram’s heavy-duty models, the Rebel and Power Wagon, offer two different takes on the heavy-duty off-road theme, you should definitely look at them now that the Silverado 2500 has a second off-road trim, the Trail Boss.

How does the Silverado 2500HD get its power? For a big truck, the Silverado is easy to drive. With the diesel-fuel V8, the huge Chevy went from 0 to 60 mph in 6.8 seconds, which is fast for something that weighs more than 8,000 pounds. Still, the 975 lb-ft of torque from the strong diesel goes from one stop to the next like a wave. It’s easy and quick to shift the gear.

A truck that weighs more than four tons will never be able to stop or turn well. The Silverado 2500HD, on the other hand, is relatively easy to drive. The truck’s precise and direct turning and smooth stopping in city traffic make it easy to stay in your lane.

How comfortable is the Silverado 2500HD? It does a great job of being ready for work and comfortable when it’s not carrying anything. It’s a hard ride, but not every little crack in the road rubs against your back as you go. The people on our team thought the seats were too flat and stiff, and they thought they needed more support and softer padding.

This system is simple to use and can quickly heat or cool the cabin. When the people get going faster, though, they make a lot of noise. The car is quiet at highway speeds. This car’s wide side mirrors mirror some wind noise, but it’s not loud enough to be a big problem. It’s hard to tell which engine is which because even the diesel engine doesn’t rattle much while going; it just hums along the highway.

How is the interior? Newer versions of the Silverado HD have much better interiors than the ones that came before. The buttons are all in easy-to-reach places, so you can use them even when you’re moving around. The interior is also easy to use. When we tried the crew cab, it had a lot of space, with enough head and legroom for everyone in every seat.

But there are some bad things about it. Some cars may think it’s too high, even though it’s the best spot. Vision is also limited in every direction. With your right eye, you can’t see anything past the big back roof pillar, and the truck is so high that it’s hard to see smaller cars. The big side lights and cameras will be very helpful. Even though the truck has big doors and side steps that fold out, it’s still hard to get in and out of unless you’re really tall.

What’s wrong with the tech? The optional 13.4-inch Silverado monitor has Google and images that look great. This is very good for both speech recognition and navigation technology. It understands natural spoken commands very well, and it’s easy to enter a navigation location. It also has several USB ports for charging your devices and wireless connection for Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, which let you use your phone while driving.

The Silverado 2500HD comes with a few high-tech driving assistance systems as standard, and you can add more as an option. We were very happy with how well the adaptive cruise control on our test truck worked in both city and highway traffic. The lane-keeping aid system has trouble keeping the truck in its lane because of how wide it is. Surround-view cameras and a blind-spot warning system make driving and getting around less stressful.

How do you store things and tow things? Our test car has a diesel engine so that it can pull up to 20,000 pounds. Its position is so midway through the pack. With a trailer or fifth wheel, the 2500HD can pull up to 22,500 pounds. Along with some helpful pulling features, the 2500 has hitch guidance and a camera system that blocks the driver’s view of a suitable trailer, making it easier to connect your car. The 2500 can carry up to 3,900 pounds, which is about the same as the rest of the class. Like with other cars, the engine, body style, and choice of two- or four-wheel drive affect the highest weight that can be pulled and the number of trailers that can be hooked up.

The Silverado 2500 has a lot of room for storing small personal items. There is plenty of space in the two gloveboxes, the center console, and the big storage area in the middle. The huge back seat area has a bench that splits in half, making a roomy floor that can be used to carry bigger items. The floor isn’t completely level, but that doesn’t make it much less useful.

How much fuel does it use? The EPA doesn’t score heavy-duty pickups for how well they use gas, so we don’t have a measure to compare our numbers to. In mixed drive, we got about 13 mpg on average with the 2500. If you choose diesel, you can expect the same amount.

Is the price of the Silverado 2500HD fair? This is what the Silverado does best. The highest trim level for a 2500 is the High Country model, which we tried. It was built very well. Some high-end features that competitors have, like a leather-covered dashboard, need to be added to this truck. However, its price is much lower than that of other top-spec competitors, and to be honest, this working truck doesn’t need the extra leather that our 2500 did. You can often get the Silverado HD for less money than other trucks in its class, and you get a lot for your money.

The Silverado 2500HD is made for people who live far from towns, frequently tow heavy things, and can easily operate this strong diesel truck. The truck looks manly enough for its class, even though its design isn’t very special or original.

Chevrolet has yet to make any public statements about the 2025 Silverado 2500HD as of this writing. We really like the LT trim level, but we’ll change our grade if anything changes from last year’s 2500HD. It’s the best deal for the money and comes with a built-in trailer brake controller, which is a must for a vehicle meant to pull a trailer. It also has GPS and a leisure system with a 13.4-inch touchscreen.

Different types of Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD

The Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD can be set up in a number of different ways. You can get a regular cab, an extended cab (also called a “Double Cab”), or a crew cab. Each one can have either a normal or long cargo bed. Work Truck (WT), Custom, LT, LTZ, ZR2, and High Country are the six trim options that you can choose from. However, not all trim levels and cab/bed combos are on the market.
