2024 Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD Overview

The Silverado 2500HD strikes a good mix between price and performance. It can pull more and tow more than the Silverado 1500 but less than the Silverado 3500HD. The 2500HD has a new look, a revamped cabin with the latest technology, and better powertrains that can pull up to 22,500 pounds when properly equipped. In addition, a new off-road form of the truck called ZR2 can take you farther than ever before.

The Silverado 2500HD ZR2 is right below the High Country in the range. The front skid plate is made of metal, the rear differential locks electronically, there is a hill descent control system, and the ZR2 suspension is 1.5 inches higher. The standard on both models is mud-terrain Goodyear Wrangler Territory tires, and the ZR2 has blacked-out body paint and matching wheels. The American Expedition Vehicles (AEV) Bison Edition package can be added to this truck to improve it. It comes with safety gear and decorations.

The updated 2024 Silverado 2500HD is better than ever, but it can’t pull as much or carry as much as the newly updated Ford F-250 Super Duty. The Ram 2500 Heavy Duty is now a competitor for the heavy Chevy, and the GMC Sierra 2500HD, which is related to the Silverado but has a different look, gets the same changes.

The way the Silverado 2500HD is driven. It’s easy to move the Silverado for a car of its size. The diesel-fuel V8 engine we tested sped this big Chevy, which weighed a little more than 8,000 pounds, to 60 mph in 6.8 seconds. However, you can ride the strong diesel’s 975 lb-ft of torque from one stop to the next. It’s easy and quick to shift the gear.

A car that weighs more than four tons will never be good at stopping or turning. The Silverado 2500HD is easy to drive, though. It’s easy to control the truck in city traffic, and the turning is accurate and straight, which makes it easy to stay in your lane.

How does the Silverado 2500HD feel? It’s easy to say that the Silverado 2500HD is comfy and ready to work. You won’t notice every bump in the road even though the ride is solid. On the other hand, the seats could use more support and softer padding; our team thought they were too flat and stiff.

The climate control system is easy to use and makes it quick to change the vehicle’s temperature. But the fans whirr pretty loudly when they’re going faster. Most of the time, the car is quiet at highway speeds. The substantial side mirrors on this car make some wind noise, but not enough to be annoying. Even the diesel engine doesn’t make much of a hum or the distinctive diesel rattle on the highway.

How is the inside? The inside of the Silverado HD is much better than in earlier models. The inside is easy to use, and all the controls are in handy spots. This makes it simple to find them even when you’re moving around. There was a lot of room in the crew cab we tried. Each seat had enough room for your legs and head.

One problem is that there are some problems. The seat is in the right place, but it feels too high, especially for more significant drivers. In addition, sight is limited in every direction. You can’t see anything over your right shoulder because of the vast back roof pillar, and it’s hard to see smaller cars because the truck is so high up. You’ll have to use big side mirrors and cams a lot. Also, getting in and out of the car is easier if you’re tall, even with the big doors and fold-out side steps.

How does the tech work? You can get the 13.4-inch Silverado monitor, which has Google built-in and pictures that look great. This changes both speech recognition and navigation systems in a big way. It’s straightforward to set a navigation point, and it understands spoken directions very well. It also has a wireless connection for Apple CarPlay and Android Auto smartphone integration and several USB ports for charging at all times.

The Silverado 2500HD comes with a few cutting-edge features that help the driver. You can add more features as choices. The adaptive cruise control in our test truck worked great on the highway and in crowded cities. The lane-keeping aid system has difficulty keeping the truck in its lane because it is wide. The built-in surround-view cams and blind-spot warning system make it easier to park and turn.

How are things going with the storage and towing? Our test truck’s 2500HD diesel engine can pull 20,000 pounds, which is about the middle of the range for this type of truck. With a fifth wheel or gooseneck, you can pull up to 22,500 pounds behind the 2500HD. The 2500 also has some cool towing features, like hitch guidance and a camera system, making it hard for the driver to see a suitable trailer. These features should make it easy to connect your truck. The 2500 can carry up to 3,900 pounds, about the same as the rest of its class. Like other trucks, the most you can load and tow depends on the body type, engine, and choice of two- or four-wheel drive.

Because it is so big, the Silverado 2500 has a lot of space for small personal things. You can quickly store anything in the two gloveboxes, the large center storage area, and the comprehensive center dashboard. The enormous back seat area has a bench that splits in half 60/40, showing ample floor space for more significant items. The floor is partially flat, but that doesn’t make it any less valuable.

What kind of fuel economy does it have? The EPA doesn’t rate heavy-duty cars on how well they use gas, so we can’t use their numbers to compare our own. We got about 13 mpg on average when we drove a mix of city and highway, and you should get about the same number, especially if you choose the diesel.

How much does the Silverado 2500HD cost? Now is the time for the Silverado to shine. The build quality of this truck was excellent, and the High Country trim we tried is the best that a 2500 can offer. It’s not as expensive as some of its top competitors, even though it doesn’t have some of its high-end features, like a leather-covered dashboard. Besides, a work truck only needs the extra leather our 2500 didn’t have. A Silverado HD often costs less than other trucks in its class, and you get a lot for your money.

The Silverado 2500HD is made for people who need to move a lot of weight or who live in the country and want an easy-to-drive diesel truck. Even though it’s not very interesting, the truck’s style is masculine enough for its class.

We like the new Silverado 2500HD ZR2, but the LT trim level is better. The cabin has new digital gauges, a 13.4-inch touchscreen infotainment system, and many tempting choices. They have bigger wheels, black logos, plush seats, more features on the tailgate, and all the latest technology and cameras for towing.
