2025 Mazda CX-30 Overview

With a length of 7 inches less than the 2025 CX-30, the tiny CX-5 is Mazda’s smallest SUV. The Mazda 3 is longer than it, so it’s a small SUV that looks like a high-riding hatchback. Mazda wanted the CX-30 to have both sporty handling and a well-fitted interior. In the past few years, these small SUVs have become increasingly popular. They’re good for both older people who want to downsize and younger people who want to save money.

Lots of subcompact SUVs need to perform better. There needs to be a Mazda CX-30 among these. It’s one of the fastest cars in its class, especially if you choose the turbocharged engine. Mazda is known for making fun cars, and the famous Miata roadster is still one of the most enjoyable cars you can buy, no matter how much it costs. It’s a lot of fun to drive the CX-30 because it’s quick and stable. Because of its stylish look and luxurious inside, it’s also one of the more appealing choices.

The Mazda CX-30 often needs more simple features compared to the best SUVs in its class, even though looks and performance are important. Some buyers may choose the Chevrolet Trailblazer because it has a lot more cargo space. The Hyundai Kona and Kia Soul are great options for people on a tight budget because the Mazda is one of the more expensive ones.

What do they like to live with?

It received good reviews for a year and over 17,000 kilometers, and we obtained useful information about its gas consumption and maintenance costs. Although we examined a model from 2020, most of what we found still applies to the CX-30 from 2025.

How does the CX-30 get its power? You can enjoy driving the CX-30 without any problems. The base engine makes more power than most cars in this class. In our tests, the CX-30 got to 60 mph in 9 seconds, while other cars took almost 10 seconds. Of course, you can always choose a supercharged engine if you need speed. It takes the CX-30 Turbo 6.4 seconds to go from 0 to 60 mph, making it the fastest car in its class. (It also does better than the Volkswagen Golf GTI.) You can really feel the road with the quick turning. It brings out the CX-30’s great driving and makes it look calm and at ease when going around corners.

If you leave the transmission in its normal setting, it will want to shift up early to get the best gas mileage. When trying to pass at highway speeds, it takes a while for the transmission to kick in. The CX-30 is better when the Sport choice is chosen.

How does it feel to ride in the CX-30? In spite of being such a fast SUV, the CX-30 is surprisingly comfy. The front seats provide a lot of support and comfort for long car trips. The back seats are well-padded and offer a nice, slightly upright sitting position. Even though the suspension feels stiff and sporty, it does a good job of soaking bumps and knocks.

It’s a lot of fun to cruise on the road. The CX-30 feels more high-end inside because it is one of the quieter cars in its class. The dual-zone temperature control could be better for people who like it very cold, but the rear vents make sure that people in the back seat get their fair share. It takes a little while for the heated seats to get warm, but they’re really nice once they are.

How is the state of the inside? The CX-30’s cabin looks nice and is easy to use. It’s simple to read and use the settings. The information and entertainment system is well put together, and the rotating knob is usually easy to use. Good news: starting with the 2024 model year, both Apple CarPlay and Android Auto can be controlled by a tablet. (Before, you could only use the dial remote for the entertainment system.)

The CX-30’s trunk is roomy for an extra-small SUV. Anyone under six feet should have a lot of room in front of them in every direction. Inside the CX-30, there is room for up to five people, but the back seat is best for two average-sized people.

Because the CX-30 is swoopier, it comes with a number of trade-offs. It’s harder to get in and out of than rivals with more boxy shapes, and the small window and thick back pillar make it harder to see out the back.

What’s wrong with the tech? The CX-30 has some nice technologies built into it. The improved safety features and driving aids are some of the best in their class because of how well they work. One can even use their phone as a Wi-Fi hotspot, but after the trial period is over, they charge for the service. Two 12-volt power connections and two USB ports are on the front of our test CX-30.

The new Bose sound system produces clear, accurate sound with good bass. The usual 8.8-inch infotainment screen has a clear, bright picture and a simple navigation system. Some models have a bigger 10.25-inch tablet that works with both Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The rotary dial is easy to use if your screen is small or if you are in the Mazda settings.

What’s going on with storage? In terms of space, the CX-30 is not as good as the others. There is enough room for cargo behind the back seats, but there isn’t much between the hatch and the back of the seats. A wide and tall hatch hole makes it simple to load. If you fold the back seats down, they don’t lie flat against the trunk floor, which makes it harder to fit long, heavy things.

It’s better to store small things. The glove box, center armrest bin, and big storage space in front of the gear are useful most of the time. The door pockets and cupholders are small because this is a small car. It’s easy to put in car seats for small kids, but a bigger rear-facing seat won’t fit right.

How much fuel does it use? The EPA says the CX-30 gets 29 mpg with the base engine, which is about the same as other SUVs with all-wheel drive. Mazda also has a boosted engine that gets about 25 mpg, according to the EPA. That’s sad, but given the rise in power, it might make sense. Overall, our tests of the CX-30 showed that it can meet the EPA’s predictions when driven in real life.

Is the CX-30 a good deal? The base engine models of the Mazda CX-30 aren’t too expensive for the class, and you get a lot of modern comforts for your money. The 2.5 Turbo types are more expensive, so they don’t offer as much value. You don’t need a CX-30 Turbo unless you really need speed.

Positively, the CX-30 has a roomy cabin that is well-built and looks great thanks to leather, soft-touch surfaces, and well-placed chrome trim. Many times, the piano-black door hinges will leave marks and creaks, but no one will notice. In this class, ownership costs and warranties are popular.

The Mazda CX-30 is both stylish and beautiful, and both the inside and outside look great. Like the smaller Mazda CX-3, it has more room and comfort inside and handles turns with precision, giving you confidence as you drive. Overall, it’s a well-rounded car.

As of this writing, Mazda hasn’t said anything public about the 2025 CX-30. If anything changes, we’ll let you know, but based on last year’s CX-30, we suggest you look into the Select Sport trim. You can choose to have keyless entry, automatic climate control for two zones, and synthetic leather seating.
