2024 Mazda CX-30 Overview

The Mazda CX-30 is a small sport utility vehicle (SUV) that is great for city people without parking space or who want a fun runabout. It has five primarily comfy seats, handles aggressively, and can make any drive more fun. There is no reason to wait for the new model, which will only come in a strange desert/safari-themed Carbon Turbo version with sand metallic paint, a tan interior, and a turbo engine. The best deal is to stick with the standard four-cylinder engine. The turbo choice is expensive, but it is a lot of fun.

The CX-30 takes Mazda’s tried-and-true recipe for quick and lively handling and scales it down to the size of a small SUV. The swift, easy-to-use driving and all-wheel drive make the car more stable when wet, making it a joy to drive around turns and curves. Even though the base engine is not as quick as those of rivals, the accelerator is better, making the ride more comfortable. The transmission sometimes lags when you want a little more speed, but it still works. Like other Mazdas, the CX-30 has a high-end dashboard that looks and feels European. Like other Mazdas, the CX-30 has a small trunk and is one of the most miniature cars in its class.

Customers who want the most room for their stuff might choose the Chevrolet Trailblazer. The extra five cubic feet of space in a car this size dramatically boosts. The Volkswagen Taos has more room for cargo than the Chevrolet Trailblazer, and its interior quality is about the same as that of the Mazda. Even with its optional turbo engine, the Hyundai Kona is a little cheaper than the CX-30, but it has less room for people and things, just like the CX-30.

What are they like to live with?

How do you move CX-30? Drive the CX-30 easily and enjoyably. Most class engines are weaker than the base engine. Our test CX-30 hit 60 mph in nine seconds, while others took over 10. If you need speed, utilize the supercharged engine. The fastest class car is the CX-30 Turbo. From 0 to 60 mph takes less than 6.4 seconds. Volkswagen Golf GTIs can’t keep up. Sharp handling improves road feel. It enhances the CX-30’s handling by enabling it to glide through curves and handle twisty roads.

To save petrol, the transmission upshifts early when left alone. Passing on the highway takes a beat for the information to kick in. The CX-30 shines in Sport mode.

How lovely is the CX-30 to ride in? For a sporty SUV, the CX-30 is very comfy. The seats in the front are sturdy and comfy enough for long trips. The back seats are very comfortable and have lots of padding, but they are not too big. Sporty and tight, the suspension can withstand bumps and dings.

Driving on the highway is fun. One of the most excellent things about the CX-30 is that it has one of the quietest rooms in its class. The dual-zone temperature control could be better for people who like it cold, but the back vents ensure everyone gets the same air. The heated seats take a while to get warm, but they are very toasty once they do.

How does the inside look? The CX-30’s interior is simple but friendly. It is easy to see and use the settings. The entertainment system is set up well, and using the rotating knob to move around is easy. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are the only ones that do not work. They would be much easier to use on the CX-30 if it had a tablet.

The CX-30’s body is surprisingly big for such a small SUV. People under six feet tall should have enough room in all directions in front of them. The CX-30 can fit up to five people, but two adults of average height are most comfy in the back seats.

The CX-30’s more rounded form has a few drawbacks. It is harder to get in and out of than its competitors, which are more boxy, and it is hard to see out the back because of the thick back wall and small window.

How good is the tech? The CX-30 is tech-heavy. The modern safety and driving tools are some of the best in their class regarding how well they work. Even a mobile Wi-Fi hotspot is available, but you must pay for the service after the trial period. On the front of the CX-30 we tested were two USB ports and two 12-volt power hookups.

The new Bose sound system is crisp and bassy. The 8.8-inch touchscreen screen is clear and bright, and the navigation system is easy to use. Even though it is easy to use the rotary dial, it would be better to have a tablet. In older Mazdas, you could use the touchscreen when the car comes to a complete stop. This is no longer the case with the CX-30’s new infotainment system.

What about putting things away? The CX-30’s storage may be best in class. Even though there is a lot of space for goods behind the back seats, the distance from the hatch to the back of the seats is not very far. A big, tall hatch makes it easier to load. But it will be harder to load big, heavy things because the backs of the rear seats do not fall to the trunk floor.

There is some extra space for small things. The ample space in front of the shifter, the storage space under the center armrest, and the glove box are all useful. Since the car is little, the cupholders and door pockets should be too. If you have small children, adding a larger rear-facing seat will be challenging because of how the car is built.

How well does it use gasoline? The EPA estimates that the CX-30 gets 29 mpg on average, about the same as other all-wheel-drive SUVs. According to the EPA, Mazda also has a boosted engine that gets about 25 mpg. That is a bummer, but it might make sense since your strength is improving. Our testing of the CX-30 showed that the EPA’s estimates could be met when driving in real-world situations.

Is it a good deal to buy a CX-30? The base engine trims of the Mazda CX-30 are priced well for their class, and you get a good number of technological and valuable features for your money. Because they cost a lot more, the 2.5 Turbo models offer less value. If you do not want to go fast, making a case for a CX-30 Turbo is hard.

The CX-30 has a roomy, well-built cabin with soft-touch materials, leather, and tastefully placed chrome accents. No one will notice if the piano-black door knobs occasionally creak and leave marks—the class average for ownership and maintenance costs.

The Mazda CX-30 has a sporty, sleek interior and exterior. Like the Mazda CX-3, it turns perfectly and makes you feel secure driving, but the inside is larger and more comfortable. The automobile is decent overall.

As of this writing, Mazda has not said anything explicit about the 2024 CX-30. We will change our suggestion if something changes, but based on the CX-30 from last year, we recommend the Select trim. The price is low, and it adds extras to the 2.5 S base grade, such as faux leather seats, keyless entry, and blind-spot alert. The bigger turbo Mazda 3 hatchback costs more than the available turbo engine, but buyers who are set on the CX-30 and want more power may find it worth it.
