Even though only a few cars have been made, there has been one recall and much talk about the Tesla Semi. But now there is an answer for those asking if the electric semi-truck has any use. One of Pepsi’s trucks will drive several hundred kilometers to test its load. Run On Less is an event for the trucking business that shows off new freight technologies and tests the ones already in use. Amanda DeVos, who is in charge of environment and technology for PepsiCo, says that the company wants to “run elm’ hard” with their Tesla Semis. The job is a maximum payload towing test with round trips of up to 500 miles to determine how far the Tesla Semi can go. DeVos wants to show what the truck can do and compare it to other Class 8 internal combustion vehicles to learn more about how well and how long it will last in more demanding conditions. Even though it’s still being determined if Tesla has permitted the truck to take part, it seems unlikely that Pepsi would go against Tesla’s wishes if it didn’t want the car to take part. It’s possible that Tesla is using the event to show off its latest successes and is now ready to share more information. Its most recent claim said it used just under two kWh per mile, suitable for a semi-truck. In the transportation business, the Tesla semi-truck is being tried right now. Also, everyone will be able to get the facts. The results will be interesting because this could be one of the first accurate tests of an electric semi-truck in a different situation.
