• In 2023, there will be an LX version of the Honda Pilot, significantly lowering the base price.
  • The Sport is one step up from the LX. It starts at $37,295 and costs slightly more than $40,000.
  • Soon, Honda dealers should be able to sell the 2023 Pilot LX.

The 2023 Honda Pilot will have an entry-level LX trim level like the CR-V and Civic. This trim level brings the starting price of the three-row SUV down by $3,200, putting it under $40,000. It is currently available on Honda’s media website, but dealerships have yet to get it.

The 2023 Pilot LX has the same mechanical setup as the rest of the lineup. It comes standard with front-wheel drive, an automatic 10-speed transmission, and a DOHC version of the 3.5-liter V-6 engine that makes 285 horsepower. All-wheel drive can be added to the LX for $2100 more.

The base Pilot has fewer extras than the higher models, and the touchscreen that comes with it is only 7.0 inches. It also has fewer features to help the driver than the Pilot Sport, which is one step up and $40,495 cheaper. Also, it only comes in silver, black, or white, has automatic climate control for two zones instead of three, cloth upholstery, and front seats that can only be adjusted by hand. Honda hasn’t released official photos of the Pilot LX yet, but it will look like the EX-L above.

We’ll see if the new 2023 Pilot, expected to be popular in its first few months on the market, follows the same rationale as the Civic and CR-addition V’s of the LX trim level for these vehicles. Honda told C/D before that this decision was made to improve how these cars are made. Before the new model came out in 2022, sales of the Pilot were down 30% from the year before.
