HOW DO THEY?

Aston Martin’s second mid-engine production hybrid is the Valhalla. Adrian Newey’s extreme Valkyrie hypercar inspired it. Aston Martin chairman Lawrence Stroll said only 275 $3 million Valkyries will be manufactured, but the Valhalla will continue in the lineup for a few years. The Valhalla will cost a high six-figure fee and be limited to 999, making it expensive and hard to buy.

WHY AND WHAT MATTER

The Valhalla initially connected the Valkyrie and Vanquish. It was designed to compete with the Ferrari 296 GTB and McLaren 750S as a mass-produced mid-engine sports car. The Valhalla will showcase Aston Martin’s Formula One ambitions since the mid-engine Vanquish program was canceled. A front-engine, V-12-powered DBS replacement will use the moniker. Aston will use it to build several hand-built, one-of-a-kind automobiles each year. Stroll said there will be more beyond the one we presented.

Platform and powertrain

The Valkyrie’s noisy V-12 is absent from the Valhalla’s carbon fibre frame. Instead of the Mercedes-AMG 4.0-liter twin-turbo V-8, the Valhalla will have a 1,012-horsepower hybrid engine. Aston engineers are considering installing two front electric motors to increase performance and handling, even though an eight-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission would transmit most of the power to the back wheels. At 150 mph, the vehicle should generate 1,400 pounds of downforce and weigh 3,640 pounds.
