Truck aims. When correctly set up, customers are taking advantage of the 2024 Ford Maverick’s ability to tow 4000 pounds. A fully loaded trailer requires AWD and Ford’s 4K Tow package, limiting Maverick combinations at 2000 pounds. We don’t need another 5,000-pound pulling arms race. Keep small trucks small. The larger 2021 Maverick pickup was a welcome return to compact pickups. The Maverick can handle big-truck jobs, which some small-truck owners enjoy. The 2022 Maverick was perfect on our first drive. The Hyundai Santa Cruz, composed of one piece of metal, was an appropriate size for its capabilities. The 2023 model added the Tremor Off-Road package. Other minor adjustments were exterior paint colors. Hybrids have 2.5-liter engines with 191 horsepower and 2.0-liter EcoBoost turbo engines with 250 horsepower. The 2.0-liter engine will be standard in 2024, and the hybrid engine will cost $1500. Most 2024 Mavericks can pull 2000 pounds, while some can pull 4000 pounds. The Tremor package limits weight to 2000 pounds. The larger 2.0-liter engine is only available with the $745 4000-pound Tow package and $2,220 all-wheel drive. The new 2.5-liter hybrid powerplant limits Mavericks to a lesser capacity even though the Maverick XL trim starts at $24,995, a pickup that can haul 4,000 pounds costs at least $27,690. The Tow package upgrades the engine by decreasing the axle gear ratio from 3.63:1 to 3.81:1, adding a transmission oil cooler, a larger radiator, and a better fan, and lowering the axle gear ratio. The bundle is not available for the Tremor. An enormous amount, 4000 pounds, is very relevant here. The Santa Cruz and Honda Ridgeline can pull up to 5000 pounds, but the Maverick can only pull 500 pounds more than the Ford Escape. It might help sell vehicles. Towing that much weight with a Maverick requires all-wheel drive, which reduces fuel economy to 24 mpg. Every automobile has merits and cons, but reading about what Maverick owners are doing is compelling.
