The third-generation Range Rover Sport came out last year. It had a new chassis and a cleaner, simpler, stacked look that changed the brand’s design philosophy. The Sport now goes to the new Range Rover Sport SV, a higher-performance model and, thanks to carbon fibre parts that make it lighter, the fastest Range Rover Sport ever made by a British car company.

The third-generation Sport SV is powered by a 4.4-liter, twin-turbo, mild hybrid V-8 gas engine with 626 horsepower and 553 lb-ft of torque. This is 51 horsepower and 38 lb-ft, more than the supercharged 5.0-liter V-8 that powered the Sport SVR in the previous generation. The land ship can go from 0 to 60 miles per hour in 3.6 seconds and as fast as 180 miles per hour. A new SV Mode lowers the car’s ride height and makes the Sport SV feel “more visceral.” There are also more TracDSC stability control modes for track days and drivers who use the gas pedal hard.

To make the car light enough to get those numbers, it now comes with a new, more efficient carbon fibre hood, 23-inch carbon fibre wheels (which save 78 pounds), and carbon ceramic brakes (which hold 75 pounds). There are four types of brake callipers: yellow, red, bronze, and black. The badges, front bumper blades, grille, and vents all have carbon details in the writing. The Edition One is a one-of-a-kind version of the new Sport SV. It has memorable logos on the front splitter, centre console, treadplates, and puddle lights. All the Edition Ones have already been taken because you had to be invited to get one.

The new Sport SV comes with the 6D Dynamics semi-active suspension system, which has pitch control, dampers that are connected mechanically, and air springs that can be adjusted for height. Depending on the drive mode, the SV is 10 to 25 millimetres lower than regular Sport models, and its all-wheel drive, all-wheel steering, torque vectoring by braking, and active rear locking differential have all been fine-tuned. To improve grip, the rear tires are now 20 mm bigger than the front tires, which have a 285-section, and a new electrically powered steering rack with a faster ratio has been added to make the car more agile.

Inside the new SV, the backrests have lit SV logos and SV Performance Seats with curved bolsters and carbon fibre backs. A 3D knit fabric is offered inside an “Ultrafabrics” car. The Body and Soul Seat (BASS) is a 29-speaker, 1430-watt Meridian Signature sound system that uses seat-mounted transducers to let users feel the sounds they are hearing. Six songs come with vibrations. They are called “Relax,” “Calm,” “Balance,” “Focus,” “Energise,” and “Wake Up.” The price of the SV hasn’t been released yet, but since the cost of the Range Rover Sport has gone up this generation, it should be closer to $150,000.
