• The Los Angeles Auto Show was the first time the 2025 Kia EV6 was shown in the United States. It has better looks and a new interior.
  • The batteries have increased in size, with the long-range rear-wheel-drive models anticipated to gain an additional nine miles of range.
  • The GT model now rivals the Hyundai Ioniq 5 N, offering a maximum of 641 horsepower and a simulated gear-shift mode.

The updated Kia EV6 was first shown in South Korea in May, but official information about the 2025 model that will be sold in the US was made public at the Los Angeles car show. Kia has gotten a little more range out of its sleek electric small SUV by making the headlights brighter and making other changes to the inside. Also, the GT model, which is designed for speed, has more power than before.

Small Adjustments Inside and Out

The most noticeable difference between this model and the last is the new triangular-shaped headlights. There is now a trapezoidal form on the lower grille, and an illuminated strip that goes across the gloss black trim piece is linked to a thin LED daytime running light on top of the main unit. The LED graphics and back bumper have been updated, but the curved full-width headlights have not changed. The wheel designs are also brand new. The diameters of the wheels range from 19 to 21 inches, based on the trim.

The 12.0-inch tablet can now be 12.3 inches deep, and it shares a more rectangular body with the 12.0-inch digital instrument cluster. The center panel now has better materials, and the steering wheel has been changed to one that looks more like the EV9 and has three larger spokes. Kia says the EV6 is now 0.6 inches longer.

Extra Battery Power Equals Longer Range

The EV6 will continue to offer four trim options: Light, Wind, GT-Line, and the high-performance GT. To start, there will be a base model with rear-wheel drive. The second will be a Long Range model that can have either all-wheel drive or rear-wheel drive. For the GT, power goes to all four wheels. For the Wind and GT-Line, you can choose between RWD and AWD.

The EV6’s batteries now hold 63.0 kWh of energy, an increase from the 58.0 kWh capacity of the base Light model. The basic model still has a single motor in the back that makes 167 hp and 258 lb-ft of torque. The capacity of all other EV6 battery packs will increase from 77.4 kWh to 84.0 kWh. Kia wants the Light Long Range, Wind, and GT-Line cars with rear-wheel drive to have a range of 319 miles. This is nine miles farther than it was in 2024.

These models have a motor in the back that makes 225 horsepower and 258 pound-feet of torque. When equipped with a second motor, all-wheel-drive cars produce 320 horsepower and 446 pound-feet of torque. Kia also moved the charge port for the 2025 EV6 to the left rear fender and swapped out the CCS port for a NACS-style port, as the CCS port is being phased out in the industry.

More big changes have been made to the GT version. It still produces 545 lb-ft of torque, but its horsepower has risen from 460 to 601 in Normal and Sport modes. The racing model’s top speed has gone up from the 2024 EV6 GT’s 576 horsepower to 641 horsepower and 568 pound-feet in GT mode. This amount of power is about the same as the Hyundai Ioniq 5 N, which is its business cousin. The EV6 GT also has the Ioniq 5 N’s innovative Virtual Gear Shift feature, which changes the torque of the electric motor to make it feel like a traditional gear change. The GT also makes fake engine noises inside.

Other New Features

Kia adds power tilt and telescoping changes to the steering column and says that all EV6s have better steering response. To meet tougher IIHS safety standards, Kia says the EV6’s frame has been made stiffer, and more sound-deadening material has been added. The long-range version can pull up to 2700 pounds more, and it can figure out how much the trailer weighs and change the estimated range accordingly.

The EV6’s working system has also been improved to make it run faster. You can also buy digital add-ons for it, like gaming features, a Wi-Fi hotspot, and streaming movies and music. Now, owners can change the look of the screen by putting the colors and logos of any NBA team they want. Customers can also use their phones or smart cards with NFC technology as virtual keys to lock, open, and drive. They can text other people the key to share it with them. Advanced technologies that help drivers, like those that avoid accidents and park themselves, have been improved.

All 2025 EV6s, except for the GT type, will be made at Kia’s plant in Georgia. Sales are scheduled to begin in the first half of 2019. The price for the updated 2025 Kia EV6 hasn’t been announced yet, but it will be a little more expensive.
