The plug-in hybrid Ford Ranger will be ready in 2025, but not in the United States. The Ranger’s PHEV engine should have a range of about 28 miles and more than 443 pound-feet of torque. Ford says Americans who want electric trucks can choose from the F-150 Lightning E.V., the plug-in hybrid F-150, or Maverick. There will be a plug-in hybrid engine in the new Ford Ranger, but it will not be sold in the United States. On the other hand, only Australia, Europe, and New Zealand can get the PHEV form. Production will start at the end of 2019, and the first cars should be in garages by the beginning of 2025. Record-breaking torque The plug-in Ranger has a 2.3-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine, an electric motor, and the battery pack that goes with it. Ford says that the PHEV version of the Ranger will have more torque than any other Ranger before it, but the company doesn’t say much about the e-motor, the battery storage, or how well the whole system works. The plan that is helped by electricity will do better than the 3.0-liter diesel V-6, which is the market winner around the world right now. If you only want to use power, the PHEV Ranger can go 28 miles on a full charge. This prediction is based on the optimistic WLTP test run in Europe. Ford says the electric mid-size truck has four-wheel drive and can pull up to 7,700 pounds, about the same as its internal combustion rivals. The plug-in hybrid version also comes with Pro Power Onboard, which lets the car work as a generator and power things like appliances and tools. In the other versions, you can’t get this feature. What about customers from the U.S.? The 2024 Ford Ranger comes with two engines in the United States: a 315-hp twin-turbo 2.7-liter V-6 and a 270-hp turbo 2.3-liter four-cylinder. The powerful 3.0-liter twin-turbo V-6 with 405 horsepower is also in the off-road-focused Ranger Raptor, which has a broader body. What about the Americans who want a new Blue Oval badge on an electric pickup truck? A Ford representative said that the Maverick hybrid, the F-150 plug-in hybrid, and the F-150 Lightning E.V. give people choices.
