HOW DO THEY? The eighth-generation Volkswagen Golf GTI EV is an electric-era fast hatchback. The Golf GTI EV will look and perform like the ICE variant. The Golf GTI’s thrilling performance and handling will remain. WHAT’S THE POINT? The Golf GTI EV, like the ID2, returns to Ferdinand Pich’s strong and confident style, disproving the idea that electric Volkswagens must look different from their ICE counterparts. The Golf GTI knows Volkswagen EVs must be lighter and easier to drive. Base and engine The ID2all front-drive MEB 21 EV architecture will underpin the Golf GTI EV. Volkswagen’s MEB 21 platform is lighter and easier to produce. It offers a larger load capacity and a spacious storage space under the multilink rear axle floor. MEB 21 Golf GTIs will feature 2.4-inch longer wheelbases and 1.2-inch wider tracks than ID2s. Adjustable too. The Golf GTI EV will use a version of the new APP550 motor with 320 hp that will be used in the ID7 sedan and driven by an electronically controlled limited-slip differential.
