• Lexus will release a plug-in RX in 2024.
  • The RX450h+ has the same engine as the NX450h+, but its electric range and efficiency are lower.
  • Lexus’ RX450h+ costs $70,080 by year’s end.

Lexus will release a third RX hybrid in 2024. Plug-in hybrid RX450h+ joins RX350h and RX500h F Sport Performance versions. The plug-in can go 35 miles on electricity like the NX450h+.

Like the NX450h+ and Toyota RAV4 Prime, the RX450h+ has all-wheel-drive. It has three electric motors and a 2.5-liter normally aspirated inline-four engine. Plugging its 6.6-kilowatt external charger into a 240-volt outlet charges the 18.1-kWh battery pack in 2.5 hours—304 horsepower versus 302 for the others. Lexus says the RX takes 6.2 seconds to reach 60 mph, slower than smaller PHEVs.

RX450h+ costs $70,080. It boasts a head-up display, an expansive windshield, and heated/cooled front and back seats.

The EPA estimates hybrids average 35 mpg, one mpg less than the RX350h, and 83 MPEGs when driven on electricity. Lexus will offer RX450h+s by year’s end.
